basikchanL
10.16.15 | la chute de la maison usher |
CamiloG
10.16.15 | Great list. Though it needs Carrie and The Exorcist (original ones) and I also would recommend Let Me In and The Conjuring |
basikchanL
10.16.15 | "I also would recommend Let Me In and The Conjuring " bruh cmon |
CamiloG
10.16.15 | Hahaha I enjoyed those movies. Maybe they are guilty pleasures, but I found them good. I would also recommend The Orphanage and Drag Me to Hell. |
furpa
10.16.15 | I mean, The Conjuring was pretty solid for a "mainstream" horror flick, but I didn't care for Let Me In. Always thought the original was faaaaaar superior.
And yeah The Exorcist is absolutely one of my all time favourites. Tis a classic. |
CamiloG
10.16.15 | Yeah I totally get your point. I've never seen let me in (original) so I can't argue about that. |
SmileNerd
10.16.15 | Scream, anyone? |
SmileNerd
10.16.15 | Also... 26?! Lol wut |
CamiloG
10.16.15 | Yeah me, I dig most of Wes Craven's early work. |
BlueandOrange

especially 23. |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | this list rules. huge props for hausu
however, maniac is certainly one of the worst movies i've ever seen |
Alastor
10.16.15 | Creepshow is one of my fav halloween films. It's super colourful and cheesy and it has Leslie Nielsen as a sadistic murderer. |
Alastor
10.16.15 | on the more serious side, Rosemary's Baby takes the cake I guess. |
guitarded_chuck
10.16.15 | the shining goat |
Aerisavion
10.16.15 | We Are Still Here - it's a little flawed but for the most part is a really good Kubrick style horror. Came out 2013. |
BeeRyan
10.16.15 | halloween, hellraiser, re-animator best actual "horror" movies on list. love beatlejuice too.
and yeah, scream is amazing |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | hausu, let the right one in, evil dead 1 & 2, cabin in the woods, suspiria, the babadook, it follows, the exorcist, alien, psycho, the shining, silence of the lambs, a girl walks home alone, poltergeist, and drag me to hell are my favorite horrors movies. |
Alastor
10.16.15 | has anyone here seen Wishmaster? That is one glorious piece of cheese.
|
SCREAM!
10.16.15 | Texas Chainsaw Massacre is probably my all time favourite. Some really nice picks here. Glad to see some House of 1000 Corpses love. I feel like that film truly captured the old school slasher atmosphere with a modern take, love it |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | i like house of 1000 corpses but texas chainsaw massacre is terrible. just... terrible |
BeeRyan
10.16.15 | the new one maybs but the old one? hell na |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | ah right, i keep forgetting there was an old one. still haven't seen it |
MO
10.16.15 | good list a lot of classics including the original texas chainsaw and the first hellraiser
I'd include The Thing tho |
JWT155
10.16.15 | List needs more Vincent Price, House on Haunted hill is great. I'm watching The Omen now, the original directed by Richard Donner with Gregory Peck. |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | THE THING! how could i forget about that one |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | and yeah vincent price was the man. house on haunted hill, theater of blood, etc. all so good |
SCREAM!
10.16.15 | "ah right, i keep forgetting there was an old one. still haven't seen it "
Ugh Gyro man |
MO
10.16.15 | "but texas chainsaw massacre is terrible. just... terrible "
please tell me you don't mean the original Gyro?! it's so fucking psychotic in how it's shot I felt more uneasy after that than the gorier remake |
SCREAM!
10.16.15 | Yeah you can't like something like Ho1000C and not like what is probably it's biggest influence |
JWT155
10.16.15 | If you're talking about The Thing, original all the way. |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | lol you guys should do yourselves a favor and scroll up :P |
MO
10.16.15 | yea saw that after but too lazy to edit |
MO
10.16.15 | also everyone should give Jacob's Ladder and Eraserhead a watch, they're fucked |
tempest--
10.16.15 | man I watched Re-Animator years ago with a mate but I barely remember it.
really enjoyed the story and recently bought the Blu-ray, will have to give it another viewing some time soon. |
JWT155
10.16.15 | I'll second Rosemary's Baby, The Shining is fantastic. |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | yeah eraserhead is a classic. an hazy, industrial nightmare of epic proportions |
adr
10.16.15 | Great list. You all should watch Possession (1981), goat horror, it's fucked up hard.
also The Wicker Man is great and very halloweenish lol. (not the horrible one with Cage obv) |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | the one with nick cage is legitimately one of the funniest movies i've ever seen |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | also i second possession |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | you could consider it to be a fucking stupid ass movie |
furpa
10.16.15 | Fell asleep and woke up to a butt fuck of comments oop.
@adr Dude Possession is fucking sick! Loved the hell out of that movie. Fuckin Sam Neill is a nut.
@gyromania Yeah I haven't gotten to watching the original Maniac yet but the one with fuckin Elijah Wood was pretty awful lol.
And John Carpenter's The Thing is so solid. Anyone ever seen the original original? Haha |
JWT155
10.16.15 | Most of the George A Romero Zombie flicks are fun as well, Night of the Living Dead is a classic. |
furpa
10.16.15 | I actually kinda dug A Serbian Film... |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | yeah night of the living dead rules
the thing is so good. saw the reboot, thought it was meh. the thing looked legitimately terrifying at points though |
MO
10.16.15 | "Could we consider A Serbian Film to be classified as "horror"?"
no. it's just shock schlock torture porn bullshit really |
Sevengill
10.16.15 | The Thing is the scariest movie ever. |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | it's definitely up there. that defibrillation scene still scares the shit out of me, and for using practical effects it looks ridiculously good |
Yotimi
10.16.15 | Maniac is one of the worst movies I've ever seen [2] |
TheMagicalBlender
10.16.15 | The Shining beats all of them as it is the greatest movie of all time. |
MO
10.16.15 | "and for using practical effects it looks ridiculously good "
this. it also brings a heaviness to the movie. like there's something tangible they're fighting against and it's so terrifying |
Dunwich
10.16.15 | "The Shining beats all of them as it is the greatest movie of all time."
It's alright, I guess. |
MO
10.16.15 | it's funny I watched The Shining with my gf recently and she almost fell asleep. she says they glossed over so many things (like the hedge animals for one) and a bunch of other stuff that she had in mind from the book that the movie wasn't good. |
Gyromania
10.16.15 | agreed mo. both the thing and alien's xenomorph look and move like real creatures (in alien's case the lighting was used to help make this look more realistic, which lends the movie its dark and creepy atmosphere that i love so much).
also i haven't read the shining but i thought the movie was fantastic. the elevator scene - among many others - makes my skin crawl. tons of great moments in that movie, and another one that's very atmospheric |
insanedrexl1
10.16.15 | Needs some Hammer horror. |
TheMagicalBlender
10.16.15 | @MO: To me, it doesn't matter if a movie cuts out small scenes like those as long as it has the same tone and point that the book does, which is what The Shining does. |
Sevengill
10.16.15 | The Thing is the only movie I've seen where "everybody dies" is a happy ending. |
MO
10.16.15 | "@MO: To me, it doesn't matter if a movie cuts out small scenes like those as long as it has the same tone and point that the book does, which is what The Shining does."
I agree I love the shining movie lol |
