The Book of Souls ranked

Consider this a rough draft for my upcoming review! OVERALL: 9.5/10
1Iron Maiden
Empire of the Clouds

No contest, this really is the best song on the album. It's 18 minutes that feels much shorter than it really is and the additions of piano and orchestra are just heavenly. The lyrics are beautiful and sad and some tasty solos from H and Dave can be found.
2The Book of Souls

This song is like a doomier Dance of Death. Beautiful riffs abounds and sure to be a fun live track. Love rhe sudden change in tempo too.
3When the River Runs Deep

What a song!!! 6 minutes of punch and is just catchy from start to finish. Love the chorus too.
4Tears of a Clown

The melancholy music and the poetic lyrics about depression make for a touching tribute to one of the funniest men alive. R.I.P. Robin.
5If Eternity Should Fail

Sci fi/spaghetti western intro combined with some stellar vocals, then an ultra catchy beat kicks in with a fun chorus and a glorious midway change in tempo! Love thst outro too.
6Death or Glory

Death or Glory, its all the same! Stupidly catchy and bouncy as fuck; amazing singalong chorus and those solos are amazing. Could be a bit longer imo BUT Overall, fun song.
7The Man of Sorrows

Not sure I'd say this is as good as the Bruce solo track but I love the bluesy opening then the sudden change in tempo and that chorus is wicked!! It's kinda like The Man Who Would Be King by way of AMOLAD.
8The Great Unknown

The most AMOLADish track here and it's a bloody good one at that. It has a sort of otherworldly feel to it which I love and the chorus is amazing. Love the outro too.
9Shadows of the Valley

I do think the final solo section was kind of unnecessary but otherwise it's a catchy tune reminiscent of The Fallen Angel that I really like.
10Speed of Light

While it does sort of feel out of place with the rest of the album, it is a fun and cracking tune with Deep Purple influences and cowbell. Love it!!
11The Red and the Black

I really do like this song but it kinda feels overlong, the six minute solo section could easily have been trimmed down a bit.
