Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You (if you have 70 minutes, this should blow your fucking mind) |
sadchild
12.29.14 | 2wwba disagree on every statement. 16 is more like SOAD + DGD + lotsa drugs, and sounds more like post-hadcore/nu-metal experimental hybrid; lets not invent alot of subgenres to 11, T2TS are post-hadcore + electronics. Protest The Hero do pretty unique music hard to classify, but they remind me much more ofpost-hardcore than raw hardcore.
2Arbrathe Stoals are fine, Counterparts are fine too but sounds more likehardcore/screamo to me, will check 3rd band later.
2elbaliem Listened to them, slightly above average to me.
2Dummit I tried, but I can't :( I saw alot of recomendations and listened to 3 or 4 albums, but I cant get em :(
2chinesewhispers
At The Drive In - Relationship of Command. Yeah, 4.4 album rating, but they did not impressed me. No, they are good, but not THAT good.
Fugazi - The Argument. Just listened to them. After listening first half minute of the album I thought I misclicked and listening to RHCP. They are more rock than punk or hardcore. Either way decent one.
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come. Heard that, great stuff.
Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You. I will find 70 minutes ;) |

01.28.15 | Took a break from all the metalcore recs (tons of 'em really) and listen to some xpxhxcx mentioned here. So:
Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You. Basically same as Fugazi, more rock than punk/hardcore. Yeah, its good, but not what I am looking for.
At The Drive In - Relationship Of Command re-listen. Lol. I dunno what I was listen it with before, but it sounds much better than I remember. Maybe I wasn't into this kind of phc when I listened to it first time. The only issue with it: I wanted to turn off lead guitarist at some moments. This fella completely ignore his bandmates and keep abusing high strings. Overall pretty awesome album.
So yeah, I'm looking for a new stuff. Added Dayshell and Nomeansno into checklist, will be glad to hear new recs similar to what I already have on list. |
Artuma
01.28.15 | ok check these:
mewithoutyou - catch for us the foxes
state faults - resonate/desperate
the saddest landscape - you will not survive
also if la dispute is the only the wave band you've heard then check the other three as well, you should dig em |
sadchild
01.28.15 | Well yeah, so what I am NOT looking for:
- 'Influental' prog rock (Fugazi, Unwound). Maybe influenced several phc bands but sounds nowhere near phc.
- Whiny indie pseudo phc like Circa Survive. La Dispute is more an exception than a tendency. But you can still try tho.
- Crabcore / autotunecore / genericcore / post repetitive quack chug.

01.28.15 | As I said before, I can't hear any phc into Fugazi. Maybe it was grown into early 00's phc somehow, but I can't recognize bands like Fugazi/Unwound as phc. Noise rock/prog rock/whatever ROCK, not punk. Like, I am not pretending to be a music historian, but anyway it's not what I am after.
Anyway, added your recs.

01.28.15 | >>why wouldn't fugazi be punk
In case of Fugazi, imo they have slow paced instrumentals, apathetic vocals, complete lack of catchiness. I told it before, I won't repeat it: they are not bad, just not in my taste.

01.28.15 | >>punk isn't allowed to have such?
"Punk bands typically use short or fast-paced songs, with hard-edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics" - wiki.
So I heavily accosiate 'punk' with word 'fast'. Yeah, its just an opinion. But lets end Fugazi dispute. I dont wanna convince anyone, lets just skip similar music in recs. Thanks. |

Dayshell - Dayshell. Was expecting much more horrific stuff when I saw ex-of mice & men member in description. But it turns to be ok.
Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts. Basicly PappyMason describes it pretty accurate: not inventive but done well.
NoMeansNo - Wrong. Right. There was some fun shit that days.
Mewithoutyou - Catch For Us The Foxes. I suspect nothing wierd of that, but some time after starting listen to this piece I found myself sitting on a windowsill, drinking vanilla coffee, staring into the rain and thinking about her...
Well, I exaggerate a bit, but that was cheesy. Ok instrumentals, tolerable vocals, girly lyrics.
And I wanna point on one more issue: separate tracks/vids recs are highly welcome, format like band - album (lead single) is even more awesome than just band - album. Cheers Mort. |

Hot Water Music - Fuel For The Hate Game. Vocals remind me of Alexisonfire a bit. This fellas' sound is pretty unique, so might check more recent albums.

Lady Radiator - Bounce Energy Hear Me Out . Good. Can't say much more tho.

Shellac - 1000 Hurts. More like noise rock.
Polvo - Exploded Drawing. Surprisingly, more like noise rock.
Slint - Spiderland. You won't believe me, but this sounds more like noise rock.
Apparitionist - White Noise. Half-hour of '43% Burnt' would be easier than this. Even despite the fact that this album is NOISE ROCK some 'glass scratching' 'riffs' didn't sound bearable at all.
Defeater - Travels. Not noise rock. Hooray. Will be good for melodic hardcore / screamo list. Decent one, noticed.
The Receiving End Of Sirens - Between The Heart And The Synapse. Just figured out that I haven't described it at all :D So what am I gonna tell you about this one? Hmmm... I dunno, but I can certanly state that this is not noise rock. |

03.06.15 | Feedback part #6:
Memphis May Fire - Sleepwalking. Overall it's decent, vocals are ok, can't say instrumentals are bad too, but still lacking personality and catchy moments. Good one, but nothing more to say about em.
Radiation Year's - Age Of The Everglades. There was only 1 studio track by em on youtube, the rest were live performances. They should be ok, and it would be nice if someone would upload that album.
The Jonbenet - The Plot Thickens. Teaser track was ok, the rest is just some chaotic stuff which reminds of HeavyHeavyLowLow or #12.
Circus Circus - Brooklyn Nightlife. This was really intense, I honestly did not expect that. I'd like to say 'check further', but it's the band only release. |
MuhNamesTyler
03.06.15 | What dude sleepwalking oozes hooks. I thought it was catchy as fuck |
sadchild
03.06.15 | Nah, all the songs sound the same for me. Basically same as Lower Definition/Recieving End/Jacobi Wichita/..., overall good, but without any bright or outstanding moments. For example, from the very recent digs: check Destrage's Neverending Mary or Jade's Place. Or ETID's Wanderlust / Revival Mode. I can say these songs are filled with catchy moments.
Instead MMF(LD/TREOS/...) is a jelly. Edible, but nothing more. |

Radiation Year - Age of the Everglades. I like it. Good vocal and instrumental variety, will check the rest.
Akissforjersey - Victims. Good one, yet nothing like Thursday tbh.
Husker Du - Zen Arcade. Yeah, more punk, less noise. 55 minutes long punk album (70 with instrumental outro) is already an interesting fact since other bands of same/neighbor genre usually make much shorter records. Dual vox, occasional solos and audible bass improve overall score, however NoMeansNo was funnier. |

Duck Duck Goose - Noise, Noise And More Noise. Chaos, chaos and more chaos. Gladly it's not mess, mess and more mess. Has its momets.
I Am Committing A Sin - Grow Past Their Promises. Actually pretty cool stuff, sadly nothing more to check. |
