Swans Ranked After First Jam

I just finished Swans' discography, I've only listened to everything once. I'm really rsurprised that I actually rended up enjoying them. I'm making this list as a reference rpoint rather than a definitive ranking which rwould be impossible from the first run-rthrough, it's almost certainly going to change.
13Swans
Greed

This was the first one I listened to and I only stuck with Swans when I later realised that it
seemed to be a general consensus that this was their worst. I'd go so far as to say that this
album is terrible. The reason that I started here was because it kept coming up in my Youtube
recommendations, plus I was looking to see what all the fuss about Swans was. Stupid
mistake starting here, I should have done a little more research. I don't know that I ever
want to listen to this one again.
12Swans
Holy Money
11Swans
Filth

Needless to say I wasn't the biggest fan of their older material which is why this is down so
low. I'm prepared to accept a light torching for this, just remember I only listened to this once
and it was the second Swans album I ever heard.
10Swans
The Burning World
9Swans
Cop

I have this higher than Filth because although I agree that Filth is extremely disgusting and
pummelling, this album has an atmosphere that is genuinely fucking terrifying.
8Swans
My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky
7Swans
The Seer

I think for this one, my expectations were either way too high, or completely misguided. Or
maybe since I listened to all of the albums in order of release (except Greed) this just didn't
wow me as much as it potentially could of had I listened to it first. Then again, it might take a
few listens to really kick in. That being said, To Be Kind had an immediate impact. This is a 4
solely going on the incredible second disc and Ave B. Blues.
6Swans
The Great Annihilator
5Swans
Children of God
4Swans
Love of Life

Yeah I know this is up really high, but for some reason this one resonated pretty hard. I might
not like it as much later, maybe I was in a really generous mood, who knows?
3Swans
White Light From the Mouth of Infinity
2Swans
To Be Kind

I personally enjoyed this one because of how engaging it is. With most of Swans stuff you're
forced to just let it happen around you; with this one it's more like LISTEN TO ME YOU
SONOFABITCH, I'M SPEAKING!!!!!!!!!!!! It's an experience but it's also a story.
1Swans
Soundtracks for the Blind

Insta-five. I was completely caught off guard with this one. I don't quite know how they made
hundreds of completely unrelated material into a 2 hour picture-less film that somehow
functions as a collection of songs and a complete unit. In this sense, you can also take any
one song out on it's own and it works as a stand-alone piece.
