Best Albums Of 2014
Not the end of the year yet but these are the albums that have really
grabbed me and stuck with me thus far |
10 | | Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood Juice
John Scofield has quickly become one of my favorite jazz guitarists. Love his style. |
9 | | The Flashbulb Nothing is Real
Best thing Benn Jordan has done since Soundtrack to a Vacant Life. He's
recaptured my attention! |
8 | | Helms Alee Sleepwalking Sailors
Another band that always hits the nail on the head for me. It's like if the Melvins
took themselves a little more seriously and had female members. Not for everyone. |
7 | | Thou Heathen
Ok so yes, the new Yob album is really good. But as far as 2014 doom goes, this
takes the prize. My first album by these guys. This album had alot of twists and
turns. And despite the raw production and the lengthy track times, it managed to
keep my attention the whole time. |
6 | | Caribou Our Love
Definitely Dan Snaith's most accessible album to date. But anything this guy does is
gold in my opinion. Can't stop listening to this. |
5 | | Tycho Awake
Not quite as good as his 2011 release Dive, but still amazing. Atmospheric,
instrumental electronic music as it's best. |
4 | | Animals as Leaders The Joy of Motion
Not my usual style of metal. I don't really get the whole current "djent" trend that's
going around but damn...this album transcends all the cliches of that genre.
Technical? absolutely....but again. the songwriting and emotional impact for me
were what made this stand out. And the mix on this is perfect. |
3 | | Cloud Nothings Here and Nowhere Else
Not much to say other than if you aren't listening to these guys, you're blowing it.
Top notch post punk. Excellent songwriting and tons of energy. |
2 | | Snarky Puppy We Like It Here
It's hard to adequately describe my feelings toward this album. Fact is...noone is
currently doing jazz fusion the way Snarky Puppy is. Never cheasy, always stellar
songwriting...and all the members seem to know their instruments front to back.
Mindblowing. |
1 | | Young Widows Easy Pain
Such a harsh sounding record but man is it rewarding once you let it sink in. These
guys have such a unique and creative way of writing songs. One of my favorite
bands of the last few years. |
