| Album Digging - October (1st Half)
Only a few up this time. Mostly because what I have been listening to has just been
bloody brilliant. | 5 | | North Atlantic Oscillation The Third Day
The latest installment of NAO's discography - is it a step in the right direction? I'm not entirely
sure. I'm not as fond of it as I am Grapping Hooks, but it still has its very interesting
moments. Tracks like 'Wired' and 'A Nice Little Place' show NAO's more sinister side that I've
never seen before, which is refreshing. Favourite Tracks: 'Wired' and 'A Nice Little Place' | 4 | | Engineers Always Returning
Still a very solid album that I still very much enjoy. Favourite Tracks: 'Innsbruck' and 'Bless
The Painter' | 3 | | Bjork Voltaic
Oh my goodness, oh my lord. Words cannot describe how much I am loving Bjork. I tried 'Volta' but that
Antony guy ruins the whole thing for me; which is a shame because it's a really nice album otherwise.
This live album, however, has live performances of the best of Volta and the best of her other works, with
some surprising twists. I ordered the deluxe box set the other day and am itching to get hold of it.
Favourite Tracks: 'Vertebrae by Vertebrae', 'Declare Independence' and 'I Miss You' | 2 | | Snake River Conspiracy Sonic Jihad
Industrial rock? Check. Female vocalist? Check. Harsh vocals? Check. Upbeat poppy tunes? Check.
God how I love this album. Can't remember how I bumped into it, but I love it. I'm a sucker for
female vocalists, especially ones who aren't afraid to show a bit of grit and attitude in their voice.
Favourite Tracks: 'You and Your Friend', 'Lovesong' and 'How Soon is Now?' | 1 | | Bjork Biophilia
Oh my sweet baby Jesus. I love this album. I think it's my favourite Bjork album along with Post. I love
how poetic it is, I love how gentle and fierce it is, I love the fusion of electronic and acoustic sounds,
and I love her voice. I'm so pumped to go see a screening of 'Biophilia: Live' next month. Now if only I
could see her perform live... Favourite Tracks: 'Crystalline', 'Virus' and 'Mutual Core' | |
Mad.
10.14.14 | Cool stuff man, bit different this time with the lack of HTB and Frames lol
5 is good but NAO don't really seem to have progressed anywhere since the first LP | JJKeys
10.14.14 | Haven't had time to listen to Anubis or Oceansize, my life has been taken over by Bjork
And yeah, I get what you're saying - Grappling Hooks is probably their most diverse album in a progressive sense, but their latest two just blend together. It's good, but it's all very same-y | Mad.
10.14.14 | There should always be time to listen to Anubis, I think I'm gonna 5 HTB any time soon
Yeah I think Grappling Hooks is better than FE, has great songs like Cell Count
Soft Coda is brilliant though
I just wish they'd make something that flows properly as an album rather than a collection of songs
| JJKeys
10.14.14 | Goood, goood! Hopefully it'll bump the average for HtB up a bit - I'm still genuinely pissed off that it's got a lower rating than Crippled Black Phoenix's latest album, which pales in comparison.
There's been a lot of bands that kinda fell flat with their latest albums: CBP, TPT, NAO... I guess that overhyping stuff just makes for a bigger disappointment when our balls aren't blown off by how great it is.
Oh well - new Bjork album next year should more than make up for it. | Mad.
10.15.14 | Well I guess most of Sputnik don't really give albums time before rating em, so they're never gonna properly understand Anubis :/
Yeah I try not to hype myself up too much, I knew TPT and CBP were unlikely to release anything amazing judging by their previous albums, but I guess Anubis completely lived up to the hype haha
What do you think of The Holy Innocent? It's the one track that seems unnecessary IMO on AToS, the melodies etc aren't that good and the saxophone solo thing is pretty weak... kinda brings the album's quality down | JJKeys
10.15.14 | What, really? The saxophone solo in The Holy Innocent is easily one of my favourite parts of the album, and I feel that the song is one of the best on the album. Although looking back, the album's perfect, and I couldn't really say which song I find weakest - but it's definitely not The Holy Innocent. | Mad.
10.15.14 | Haha fair enough man, I actually listened to the song again while in he gym today and enjoyed it much more than before, maybe that's cuz I wasn't concentrating fully on it though... I just feel like that sax solo has a bit of random jabbing of notes, doesn't have the same feeeeeling as an amazing saxophonist would have
I am quite convinced that HTB is their best album tho | JJKeys
10.15.14 | Goood, gooood. You get that though, one day you're in love with a song, the next day you're impartial about it - it happens with a lot of music.
And gooooood! AToS is just above HtB IMO but they're both well worthy 5's - speaking of which, now you've said that are you gonna follow suit? | Mad.
10.15.14 | I need to give HTB one more listen to prove it's a 5 then I probably will
AToS and the debut are probably a high and low 4 respectively atm |
