| All Breaking Benjamin Songs Ranked (with Descriptions)
In honor of Breaking Benjamin releasing their new lineup and the promise of new material, I rank all the Pennsylvanian hard rock group's tracks. This is inspired by Green Barons thorough treatment of Anberlin, which you should also check out if you haven't already. "Ordinary Man" - This is another boring B-side off the greatest hits. Unimpressive vocals and guitar work here are trite and ineffectual. The song is pedestrian filler. "Just a common counterfeit," sings Burnley in the chorus. A very apt description for a very "ordinary" effort. | | 54 | Saturate
"Sugarcoat" - Poor songwriting swings the axe on this track which comes off the then quartet's 2002 debut. The verses are stripped down to acoustic strumming and Burnley's soft vocals, but the chorus is an abrupt shift to Burnley's harsh Cookie Monster impression. The change between the two is jolting. The transition is actually smoother from bridge to the third chorus, if you're still listening by that point. "Lie to Me" - It's an acoustic B-side that is just onerous. Burnley just meanders through it, rendering it a very dull listen -- ironic that Burnley croons about "another boring anthem." Speaking of lyrics, "Because you lost/Because I just love to hate you/Because you lost me" are awful and repeated throughout the track. It's a tough, tough four minutes to endure. | |
