08.13.14 | 'Pass or fail hit the ale'
that is beautiful
good luck with the results dude. what AS subjects are you doing? |
TalonsOfFire
08.13.14 | No idea what this is, some European thing I assume? |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | @ore Cheers man.
@jeff. Maths, Further, Biology, PE. I'd think I'll get around B,U,B,B respectively and thanks |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | @talons this is the day that everyone in sixth form (the two years before uni) collects their exam results done in the summer |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Mine are on the 21st and I'm absolutely terrified. Good luck! |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | GCSE though, not A/AS Level |
Mort.
08.13.14 | yeah well good luck anyway tuna. although tbh gcses are easy as shit, just most people dont realise it
at the time.
god if i could go back to school id ace gcses. i did so little revision and fucked about so much and
yet managed to do decent. college will put it in perspective for you of how easy it was. and im sure
uni will do the same for college |
Mort.
08.13.14 | lol itchy ive tried explaining our system to you in plug like 3 times |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Wise words from Mort. He's right though, GCSE's are a walk in the park in contrast to AS or A2. I only did revision for everything in the month before and I regret it so much. Just don't expect to continue with the same habits you did at GCSE for A level. Also, AS levels are arguably more important than A2 because of predicted grades for uni and stuff. Good luck anyway, tuna.
@Mort, you going to uni? if so, which one you thinking of? |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | i was unfortunate enough to do further for AS and A2 as well, it's a total bitch. Don't want to discourage you but it's also much much harder at A2 level, especially compared to other A-levels |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | I just want to get the results so I can stop feeling so anxious haha |
Mort.
08.13.14 | "yeah yeah you were in uni whish is 2 years and its like preparation for college whish is the real deal and you get a degree in whatver yall be studying when you done with it"
otherway round mate, in college for 2 years |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | if you only spend 2 years at uni you're doing it wrong |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | I'm in the exact same situation, I'll get my final A-Level results too. The only thing that's keeping me happy is talking to my GF online and she's about to go to sleep so tonight's going to be rough :[
Good luck for everyone tomorrow. |
ExplosiveOranges
08.13.14 | Good luck. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | @jeff further is a right bitch indeed. I don't mind doing it for A2 cos I've kind of burnt a few bridges by not doing Chemistry. |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Yeah good luck, all the best. |
Mort.
08.13.14 | "@Mort, you going to uni? if so, which one you thinking of?"
want to go yeah. got an offer from UEA for politics, but it was for four years so i turned it down (as i wanted to do philosophy not politics and 4 years is more debt). once i get my results tomorrow, im gonna go through clearing (the system in place to fill up spaces cos people drop out before courses start etc and only people who havent accepted a place can go through clearing so me yeay). then if i get a philosophy course somewhere good then im going. if not, gonna apply again next year
yeah. |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | '@jeff further is a right bitch indeed. I don't mind doing it for A2 cos I've kind of burnt a few bridges by not doing Chemistry.'
so glad i never did chem, but in that case prepare your anus for FP2 and 3 |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | More people doing a levels than i thought here o.O
@mort. Yeah come to UEA bitch! Top 20 uni in the country and norwich is a great place. Dont get me wrong, but I read somewhere that even if you have an extra year, you're only ever charged for 27grand unless you do medicine or a masters or something. Cos if that's true, you could easily do a 4th year without any extra costs other than maintenance stuff. Good luck with that then. I've got a couple of friends who are scared about clearing and I've heard it's messy stuff. This time next year is gonna be fab |
Mort.
08.13.14 | yeah man i went around uea, it was my fav uni. liked kent a bit more but tbh id happily settle for uea. im gessing you live in the area then? |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | yeah, i live in a town that's on the border between suffolk and norfolk. It's called... Diss. (i know right). Quite a change seeing I used to live in london but it's peaceful and there's a high speed train that goes to norwich and london in either direction |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | @ChoccyPhilly: You're getting into UEA? You're definately more intellgent then me then, nice work. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | @calc i wish. I'm in the lower sixth but I'm hoping to get into York or Aberdeen. Where are you hopefully going? |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | @Choccy: Liverpool to do Mathematics. I think I won't get in due to the Core 4 exam this year being fucking appalling :[ |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Mathematics was always a weakness for me. Science (particularly biology and chemistry) and English always interested me more. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Good luck then, calc. I'm a mathsy person myself and i've been told that c4 is a right pain in the arse and I'm also doing further. liverpool is a good uni too, equally as good as UEA I think |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | @Choccy: I was awesome at Core 4, did 11 past papers and got A's on 8 of them. But this year's exam was so horrific it was the worst c4 exam...EVER. Put all of the past papers to shame, no matter how hard I tried it would have done nothing and that's what pissed me off. |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | Core 4's great Choccy, don't let naysayers put you off it. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Have you checked out the grade boundaries yet? They could be surprisingly low for c4, you never know. c1 is high as always. 65/72 for an A |
Mort.
08.13.14 | i was so glad when i got the offer from uea
then dissapointed when it was four years for politics
oh well, they sent me an email saying they have philosophy spaces, so i just need my results to be ok tomorrow, and i have a good chance |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | What are your requirements for philosophy? |
Mort.
08.13.14 | well, originally i never got an offer from philo even tho i applioed for it. the four year poloitics course was ccc
for clearing, theres no requirements, i just get what i get, go through and see if they give me a place. ive heard of people getting through clearing with shit grades so who knows. just gotta see what i get tomorrow |
PappyMason
08.13.14 | Best of luck dudes.
And don't worry too much, it may seem like the most important thing right now but it's never the end of the world if you don't get the grades you need. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Yeah good luck Mort. Tomorrow is probably more important to you than me. What a levels did you do? |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | Anyone else feeling physically sick atm? :/
@Choccy: They can be only so low, and I did worse then my usual standards that day. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | my stomach is churning at the sight of the grade boundaries. It's a mix of fear and curiosity. That's true calc. Good luck anyway, it's gonna be a tough sleep tonight if i even manage |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | I think I did ok on my exams, but the psychology definitely went better than the Spanish. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | You do Psychology at GCSE? yeah spanish is a right bitch. Had edexcel who were oddly cruel on the day, not to mention my exams were the day after leavers day/party so I was tired and mildly hungover. You get another week at least! |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | @Choccy: Thanks, we'll both need it. Just listening to Gackt to try and stop thinking. |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Yeah I had the exam in June. In my school we do 2 GCSE options in Y10 and 2 in Y11. |
Mort.
08.13.14 | @ choccy i did philosophy, english lit, history and psychology. dropped english lit for second year |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Yeah some chill out jams are doing wonders right now.
Don't sweat about it, Tuna. I thought I did horrendously in my spanish but I got an A in the end |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Ok thanks! The hardest one was the speaking, everything else wasn't so bad. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Speaking and writing were great! It was listening that was an arse. The tapes spoke too damn fast.
@mort ahh all the essay based subjects huh? I dropped psychology before it messed with my head. Have fun doing philosophy if you do then |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | this thread is bringing back so many empathetic memories
good luck everyone
|
Mort.
08.13.14 | "ahh all the essay based subjects huh?"
basically lol. wears you down quickly. each subject requires a different writing style and format which is a fucking pain |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | I can imagine. You don't know essay exam technique until you do OCR PE. I did it for fun and it ended up dragging me down so much due to the damn exam technique alone.
Can't even describe how nervous I'm getting, Jeff |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | I'm more nervous now than I was for the actual exams themselves. |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | "I'm more nervous now than I was for the actual exams themselves."
This so fucking hard, I wasn't nervous much for my exams until my last exam (c4 surely winded me). This is just horrible. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | I listened to a shit load of trip hop and then right before the exam, I'd put on some Death Grips to get me super hyped but this is a different kind of anxiety, especially after looking at the grade boundaries... |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | Why bother looking at the grade bountries? That would just make me feel worse. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | You could tell how well you did with my subjects because it was either right or wrong unlike something like english, so I know roughly where abouts I am and I was curious anyway. But yeah, nerves are everywhere now |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | I was just listening to a ton of opeth with my friend before the exams. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | All my friends hate Opeth now because of me ;]. You got nothing to worry about, Tuna. The important GCSEs were all very easy |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | It's a similar story with my friends and tool. I never shut up about them haha. Don't even have any careers in mind yet either. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | What a levels/college courses you planning on doing? |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | I have another year of secondary left but for sixth form I'm thinking about English Language, Biology and Psychology if things go well. |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | this was about the worst period for me in terms of nervousness - not late enough to go to bed and sleep through it but close enough to the deadline to make me start overthinking literally every answer i'd given in the exam.
The only answer was to jam mingus and hope for the best |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Lol yeah, I'm not sleeping tonight. I've messed up my sleeping pattern so much that I doubt I'll wake up on time. What's mingus like? I was thinking jamming casualties tonight.
Good choices tuna. Writing reviews here should help with english and psychology exam technique and stuff. not doing chem or physics though? |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | mingus is the greatest jazz artist of all time
casualties is a great late-night jam choice, that album's really growing on me |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | Yeah, I agree it's not something you can listen to when it's too bright. The atmosphere feels like it should be listened to at night. Will listen to Mingus too. What kind of jazz is it? |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | he spans a whole range of jazz, but he's most known for his more accessible post bop stuff (eg. mingus
ah um) and his avant-garde big band stuff (eg. the black saint and the sinner lady). He has an
incredible discography but those are prob his best two albums
|
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | I'm thinking about chemistry but probably not physics. |
Sabrutin
08.13.14 | "Any chilled out recs guys?"
Jam some Dire Straits! |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Jam some Dire Straits! [2] |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0ffIJ7ZO4U
Best place to start |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | That's the wrong kind of chilled out right now. Consider chemistry if you want to go into something sciency by the way. It opens up A LOT of doors that biology alone cant |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | So many negative thoughts in my head, fuck make this end. |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Yeah that's what I was thinking. Biology is slightly more specific I suppose.
Maybe try Hesitation Marks by NIN. I consider that chilled, at least for NIN. |
jefflebowski
08.13.14 | talk talk |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | As long as you avoid any Elliott Smith you should be fine. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | List above is all I need right now. Now we wait! |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Good luck! |
CalculatingInfinity
08.13.14 | I'm off to bed, night lads. Good luck. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.13.14 | I'm going to play fifa for the next 8 hours or something |
Tunaboy45
08.13.14 | Night calc.
I'm just playing GTA and listening to NIN. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.14.14 | HOW DID YOU GUYS DO THEN? |
Tunaboy45
08.14.14 | How did you do??
(I'm waiting for GCSE so I'm next Thursday) |
ChoccyPhilly
08.14.14 | BBC...E. Pretty disappointed because both of my Bs were 1 mark off an A. BOTH OF THEM. I'm ok with the C, I don't deserve anything more than that |
Tunaboy45
08.14.14 | Ok. What next then? |
CalculatingInfinity
08.14.14 | @Choccy: You did better then me last year. Last year I got BCDD, boy did I become a machine this year compared to that. Refer to what I said on my thread. |
ChoccyPhilly
08.14.14 | Remarks! it costs 50 quid for each paper though but hopefully that'll bring at least one of those Bs to an A. Cheers calc, I intend on getting my head down to work on my EPQ and learning some stuff for further maths next year. |
Mad.
08.14.14 | I'm bummed that i got a C in my EPQ, thought I did well :/
Also what subjects do you do Choccy? |
ChoccyPhilly
08.14.14 | Maths, Further Maths, Biology, PE.
A C in the EPQ is still pretty good and will get you a good handful of UCAS points |
