Betray's Warped Tour Experience

I attended two Warped dates this year. Was an overall good time.
1Motionless in White
Creatures

The bass drum overpowered everything else in the sound. I checked out their sets both
days to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. This band has no interest in playing their
older (better) material and it shows in the performance. Decent set overall though,
taking the better songs from both old and new albums.
2Attila
About That Life

Say what you will abut Attila's music. They put on an amazing show and probably had
the biggest non-main stage crowd. Fronz controls the crowd and gets them to interact
like no other frontman on the tour. Great time.
3The Word Alive
Real

Pretty bad overall. They played some of their worst songs, and Telle's vocals (highs
especially) sounded terrible.
4The Devil Wears Prada
With Roots Above and Branches Below

The Devil Wears Prada is SO MUCH heavier/better live than they are on the record.
Amazing set full of fan favorites, and their crowd was one of the best.
5Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!
Pardon My French

CNCC packed the small stage with a set full of fun songs. Bert's vocals live are superb.
6Fit For a King
Descendants

Another small stage band, with much less of a crowd than CNCC. Everyone that was
there to see this little known Solid State band knew the material and what to do, so the
short set was very intimate and a lot of fun. They could sound a bit better live, but that
will no doubt come with more experience.
7Every Time I Die
From Parts Unknown

Had never heard a single song from this band until their set at Warped. They put on a
fast, loud and heavy show with a crowd full of older and younger fans who adore them.
Will check these guys out soon.
8Issues
Issues

This band has Issues with their live show. In other words, they fucking suck. Michael's
screams (that I can't stand on the record) were the only good thing here. DJ Scout could
not look any more bored if he tried to.
9Beartooth
Disgusting

I already hated Beartooth's debut album Disgusting. I was more even more disgusted
when they violated one of my biggest musical pet-peeves: vocals sounding NOTHING
like the record live. Shomo runs the fuck out of breath and chops up the only good song
on their album, 'The Lines'. Shomo tries to disguise his vocal incompetence by pointing
the mic at the crowd for 50% of each song.
10Of Mice and Men
The Flood

I hate OM&M's new album so much, but I can't take their live show away from them.
Killer set, new songs included.
11Parkway Drive
Horizons

Parkway Drive live is something that every metal fan should experience, regardless if
you like 'core' music or not. Winston is a monster behind the mic live, and the whole
band's sound is totally on point. Amazing set-list as well.
12Volumes
No Sleep

My surprise best performance of Warped, even over Parkway. I went because Volumes is
fun to get in the pit to, but ended up getting out halfway through to really take in how
good they sounded. A mix of the best songs from both albums, their vocals and
instruments could have passed for studio tracks in their live setting. 'The Mixture' and
'Wormholes' were the most fun I had both days. Don't skip out on Volumes.
13Vanna
VOID

Another surprise performance. I've been a Vanna fan for a long time, but never got to
see them live. Unfortunately the crowd both days was mostly made up of people early
for the next band. However Vanna took control and put on a banger.
14Secrets
Fragile Figures

Never seen Secrets live. For them to play as good on the last stretch of shows on
Warped as they did; I will be seeing these guys next nearby club show.
15Neck Deep
Wishful Thinking

They were just ok. Crowd goes ape shit for them.
16The Story So Far
Under Soil and Dirt

It pains me to say this - TSSF is one of my favorite bands - but they were very average
live. Parker makes the crowd sing too much, everyone wants him to sing. They played
more like a pop-punk band would at a club show instead of a giant outdoor all-day
festival.
17The Ghost Inside
Returners

Great fun in the pit. Played all their best songs. Sounded great. One of the best on
Warped.
18Crown The Empire
The Fallout

I hate this band, but I can't take their live show away from them. Very very solid and
extremely impressive vocals.
19For All Those Sleeping
Incomplete Me

Another favorite of mine that only played just okay live. A bit disappointing. Their lead
vocalist always leaves me wondering how he can sound like that.
20Born of Osiris
Tomorrow We Die Alive

BoO fans new and old couldn't be more pleased with their setlist at Warped. All favorites.
They sounded pretty good too.
21Sleeping With Sirens
Feel

Besides the ear-piercing screams of thousands of fangirls, SWS's was very enjoyable and
Kellin is one hell of a live vocalist.
22Falling in Reverse
Fashionably Late

I had to sit through this set to secure my spot on the barricade for TSSF. Ronnie actually
tried to fight a 15 year old kid flicking him off in the crowd. He stopped singing multiple
times to shout obscenities at him until security had him moved. Ronnie isn't much of a
live singer, he sets the standard too high on the record to actually deliver live. He 'makes
up' for it by pointing the mic at the crowd for half of each song.
23State Champs
The Finer Things

The crowd at Warped goes absolutely nuts for these guys, and for good reason.
24 Other things
worth mentioning:

The way the stages were set up was superb, better than any other year of Warped. You
didn't have to walk too far to go to another stage, tent or stand. Always a great thing. To
go along with the great stages, a great line-up for the most part was playing them.
However, some bands deserved a bigger stage while some deserved a smaller one.
CNCC playing the Ernie Ball (the smallest) stage and Terror and Stray From The Path
playing the Monster stage? Come on.
25 Merch
Concessions

A lot of merch was limited edition for Warped (a warped tour staple) and decently priced.
Water was expensive, but the security at both of my events didn't mind anyone bringing
in stuff from home.
