Some Albums To Trip To

I have decided to make this list to highlight some albums that I feel work well within the psychedelic experience. Many of these albums are not your traditional 60's psychedelia as I feel many of these albums, while fun are simply too grounded. These are the albums that will take you places. Enjoy.
1Terry Riley
Shri Camel

The absolute best (IMO). Meditative yet has a strong trippy vibe that manages to
take you places and ensure a pleasant trip. Can be used for both recreational trips
and deep exploratory journey into ones consciousness. I feel that a lack of lyrics
also helps (a common theme amongst many of these albums) as it helps prevent
your everyday ego from tainting your experience.
2Gas
Pop

I could recommend many Gas albums for tripping but Pop is the one I shall choose
for this list. Like all Gas projects this album was inspired by LSD and it shows.
Perfect for tripping in nature due to its organic quality and mysterious vibe.
3Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works, Vol. II

Better for the experienced tripper. Most of this album has a deeply sinister vibe
that can take you in pretty grim places if your not prepared. However there are
rays of light within the shadow which balanced this out. One for those who want to
explore the dark side of the psychedelic realm.
4Sunn O)))
Black One

I may caution against Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works, Volume II at number 3
but while that album isn't necessarily going to give you a dark experience this one
certainly is. Only for those who are really desperate to enter the void. Its a
powerful experience for those that try but one that should be approached with
extreme caution. Don't say you weren't warned.
5The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Electric Ladyland

One of the more traditional psychedelic albums on my list this is the one you want
to go for if you feel the need to listen to one of the gods of 60's acid while high as
fuck. Better for insane recreational trips than deep journey (although some of the
guitar work will take you deep). Hendrix knew how to provide a good time on acid.
6Infected Mushroom
IM The Supervisor

Fucking crazy. Excellent for those trips when you want to go out and dance
yourself into ego death. Best heard through a massive pair of speakers in a large
crowd of fellow trippers (or rollers, MDMA works very well with this as well.
Candyflipping and Hippyflipping are recommended). OK, this situation may be more
difficult to engineer but we can dream, and hope.
7Pink Floyd
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Out of all the 60's psychedelic albums this is the one that I feel captures a
recreational psychedelic trip the best. An excellent social album to put on in the
background at a 'love-in' revival but equally as good as a soundtrack to your own
personal psychedelic experience. Magnificent.
8John Martyn
Solid Air

Most of these albums are best listened to at the peak of the experience. This one
is for the time when you start to slowly return to reality, perhaps with a cheeky
spliff on the way down. Creates an excellent chilled vibe that is also deeply
reflective. One for all the hippies out there.
9The Stooges
Fun House

Bear with me on this one. While its not your typical psychedelic album there is no
denying that Fun House generates a powerful otherworldly atmosphere. One that
can be enhanced by psychedelic drugs. The fury of the instrumentation rivals any
traditional psychedelic song and while the places it takes you may not necessarily
be deep and spiritual they are still unique and (above all) fun.
10The Orb
Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld

Dark Side of The Moon for the electronic age. Its not possible to say enough about
the value of this album to the psychedelic experience. It can take your trip literally
anywhere. You can have a good laugh with it as the walls start to melt, you can go
and dance to the house rhythms or you can space out and dissolve your ego in the
moments of serenity. An essential album for trippers from all walks of life.
