The Mantle V. Ashes Against The Grain

There seems to be a general consensus that The Mantle and Ashes Against The Grain are Agalloch's two crowning achievements (if only by avg. rating) on Sputnik. Both are undeniably unique, and captivating works of heavy metal.
1Agalloch
The Mantle

4.5 - Without question for me the superior of the two. The heavier focus on folk creates more diversity, and in a yin-yang-like fashion makes the conventionally heavy sections more poignant. Also, I just like the songs better. (The Hawthorne Passage, In The Shadow of Our Pale Companion, and ...And The Great Cold Death of The Earth are standouts for me)
2Agalloch
Ashes Against The Grain

4.0 - While this certainly retains the signature Agalloch folksiness, there is an obvious emphasis on electric-guitar driven metal. At times, I feel that some trimming could've been done to a few tracks. (Limbs, and the Our Fortress Is Burning Trilogy as standouts).
