It’s all about best possible quality for me so hard copies all the way guys! Having everything available at any time (and in minor quality) changes the way you listen to and enjoy music. Reduce quantity and appreciate quality. m/

JWT155
03.11.15 | If you had $10 a month for music and had to pick between buying 1 record for that month or being able to stream essentially the entire catalog of music in modern existence, I think most people would rather have the latter.
That's like saying you would rather have 1 blu-ray copy of a movie then have an unlimited source of standard quality films. I'll take selection every single time. |

03.11.15 | essentially the entire catalog of music in modern existence

JWT155
03.11.15 | And even if you like quality, Spotify let's you stream a record the very day it's released! No more pre-ordering a record, having to wait in line at work, run the risk of them overselling and leaving you without a copy or getting your copy only to see it's scratched up. 10 years ago I'd have to drive 20 mins to the record store and pick up the new record, drive home and give it a spin on my Walkman and that was the only format I could listen to it on. Now, I literally wake up on release day, go to Spotify, have the album downloaded in 30 secs and can listen to it by the time I'm done brushing my teeth. It's an awesome time to be alive. |

So we should all get bent out of shape that the bar band down the road doesn';t have music on Spotify? Or the shitty cover band that plays Wednesday nights to an empty crowd? Or the new punk band some coworkers son just started where you can only hear the fucking drums and nothing else? Yeah, I’m probably the minority here but that’s kind of a sad thing I think. I experienced myself how having plenty of stuff available at any time changed my listening behavior up to the point where I didn't feel the desire to listen to music anymore and couldn’t enjoy it as I used to. It’s just that music is much too precious a good for me to consume it as a mass product. But that's just me of course, everyone has his own way of enjoying a good tune. Life would be NOTHING without music after all. m/

03.11.15 | Davil667 - I agree with your points, a lot of things have a decreasing marginal utility to them, the more you indulge the less you get out of it. I work a job where I can listen to music all day and I'm lucky enough to constantly find fresh and cool music I never heard or paid attention to before. Without spotify or the internet, I would be unable to do that. I think it's cool that you appreciate the music you listen to and don't feel the need to over saturate your ears, but you'll also never know what you may be missing out on. |

I'm sure there's picky people in all facets of life who would say the same thing.
Wine connoisseurs saying people should stop drinking cheap alcohol and expose themselves to delectable and rare wines from France to Italy.
Michelin Chefs who mock the fast food industry and believe people should be eating not only more healthy but better quality food.
Gamers who roll their eyes when Moms and kids whip out their phones to play Candy Crush and the like, they should buy a PC and become "true" gamers.
Music is like any other medium, it has it's plain purpose for simple entertainment for the masses and a small minority that really delve into the craft. Just like wine snobs, pretentious chefs and elitist gamers, music is filled with pompous smug listeners who think they know best and others should bow to their tastes and likes, and that's not right.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying cheap shitty beer.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying a shitty fast food burger.

03.11.15 | But who says that's settling? Some of the best experiences in life are the simple ones.
I remember reading an article about the founder of Dogfish Head Brewery, one of the Elite Microbreweries in the country. In it he was asked if he drinks cheap beer anymore at all. He laughed at the question and said he drinks a lot of cheap beer still and some of his favorite times to drink are at his beer hockey league. Every week, someone on the team brings a case of the shittiest beer they can find and he said he enjoyed every second of drinking the skunkiest beer in town with his team. According to your analysis his life is too short to enjoy such rubbish when the best is at his disposal at all times.
It's great to indulge in all the pleasures of life and the top shelf of what the world has to offer, but there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the simple and even the less than par circumstances life offers. |

03.11.15 | This is a music website, obviously I'm going to rate music I like and in since I've been here a while and I've worked in radio, I enjoy a lot of what Sputnik likes and my tastes have grown. well 1) I didn't analyze anything, it was only a general statement. don't look too into things my dude. 2) you didn't say cheap 'good' beer. I absolutely have no problem with that, but I do have a problem with wasting my time and money on low-quality resources, services, goods, art, what have you. this is how I live by, not saying that others should do the same.
I'm not a fan of Corona so I wouldn't waste my money on it, I'd always rather get the best out of my money and get what I perceive to be better quality beer, as an example.
but following your point, I'd enjoy Corona if I were at a party or with friends and that's what's available. That becomes a totally different situation. |

This is exactly what I was trying to get at. Yea, we all love good music here, but I really get aggravated when people make statements like "I don't understand how someone can listen to (insert terrible band/artist)" or "everyone should listen higher quality music" ect.
