iTokoloshe's 25 Of 2009
The 25 metal albums that ripped me a new one in 2009. These are in no particular order. |
1 | | Arch Enemy The Root of All Evil
Angela Gossow's take on the classic Arch Enemy songs, more brutal than ever |
2 | | Architects Hollow Crown
Leading the pack in the UK metal scene, another cracker from Architects |
3 | | Asking Alexandria Stand Up and Scream
Really good blend of breakdowns, riffage, shredding and electronics |
4 | | Baroness Blue Record
Beautifully crafted, sludgy and mesmerising. These guys are building an impressive catalog of great music |
5 | | Bleed From Within Humanity
The boys from up North punch you in the throat with an awesome debut album |
6 | | Bury Tomorrow Portraits
Another young British band with some great breakdowns and fantastic rhythms |
7 | | Chimaira The Infection
Chimaira's most balanced and consistent album. All 6 members of the band shine on this scorcher |
8 | | Daath The Concealers
Technical wizardry |
9 | | DevilDriver Pray for Villains
Dez and the boys really hit their stride on this album, great momenets throughout this album, groovier than the 60's |
10 | | Dividing the Line At Least It's Not Light
Great balance of melody, electronics and hardcore |
11 | | Every Time I Die New Junk Aesthetic
The Buffalo lads hit the spot yet again, ferocius and hilarious at the same time |
12 | | Gallows Grey Britain
"I know where you live" |
13 | | Exodus Let There Be Blood
Great re-recordings of a classic album. Should classics be re-recorded? Depends on the reasons. In this case, it benefits from the improved production quality. Rob Dukes is no Paul Baloff, but still puts out a great performance |
14 | | Hatebreed Hatebreed
Jamey and his crew are on fire with this album. Stronger song composition, aggression to the extreme and great lyrics. The music to punch through walls with |
15 | | Incite The Slaughter
I saw these guys live and was super impressed, they manage to capture their stage performance well on this debut. Ritchie Cavalera continues the Cavalera trend for bloody nosed albums |
16 | | Lacuna Coil Shallow Life
Cleaner production than their past albums, but slightly more commercial songs. Cristina is still amazing though |
17 | | Lamb of God Wrath
Randy and the LoG team provide another uppercut with this album, great stuff. Groovy, fast, angry classic |
18 | | Mastodon Crack the Skye
The most psychedelic album out there. Great use of three vocalists, powerful suffocating riffs and complex composition |
19 | | Obituary Darkest Day
Florida death metal legends with a great death metal album |
20 | | Sacred Mother Tongue The Ruin of Man
Shredding |
21 | | Slayer World Painted Blood
SLAYER! |
22 | | The Arusha Accord The Echo Verses
Two vocalists providing great variety in the vocals, the way they work together is similar to two lead guitarists shredding away |
23 | | The Black Dahlia Murder Deflorate
Attacks you from all sides, sounds like Trevor Strnad has multiple personalities with each of his different growls/shouts/screams/grunts |
24 | | Wolfmother Cosmic Egg
Lez Zeppelin reincarnated in the 21st century with some Aussie style thrown in |
25 | | Xerath Xerath I
Epic landscape for some crushing metalcore |
