08.10.13 | I know some people will complain about Saint Vitus's absence, but really which of these bands can you leave out ? |
TheNotrap
08.10.13 | Sabbath invented the sub-genre with their self-titled track but they're not a doom metal band in my opinion.
Candlemass is my fav.

08.10.13 | Yea, I wouldn't call Sabbath doom they're just the forefathers. So remove them and add Vitus! |
JamieTwort
08.10.13 | Yeah I'd have Pentagram, Candlemass, Trouble and Vitus as my big 4. I'd replace Sabbath simply because I don't consider them a doom band as such, even though they did pioneer the genre. |

08.10.13 | How about Cathedral? I also have a soft spot for Witchfinder General even though probably they don't deserve a spot, they have been highly influential. |
sonictheplumber
08.10.13 | take out sabbath and add vitus |
Madbutcher3
08.10.13 | Yeah WG is awesome, probably not worth adding here though |
Madbutcher3
08.10.13 | actually put Unholy in instead since they're probably better |
none
08.10.13 | lol |
Madbutcher3
08.10.13 | I mean, Sabbath could easily be the best or equal best thing here, but Pentagram in particular is kinda average compared to the rest |
JamieTwort
08.10.13 | Pentagram are awesome. Probably the second most important too in terms of influence just behind Sabbath. My second
favourite band on this list actually. |

No, but quite a few songs in their catalogue can be classified as Doom, not just their S/T. "Hand of Doom", "Electric Funeral", "Lord of This World", "Children of The Grave", "Into the Void", "Under The Sun", for me all of these songs sound more Doom than Heavy Metal. |

08.11.13 | "How about Cathedral ?"
Cathedral are one of my all time favorite artists and one of the best metal bands ever. But they emerged in the 90's. They led the second wave of Doom alongside Solitude Aeturnus. So I just can't add them.
"I also have a soft spot for Witchfinder General even though probably they don't deserve a spot, they have been highly influential."
Agreed, Witchfinder General are also one of my favorite Doom bands and they were quite influential on the genre. I suggest you to check out Pagan Altar. Their style was similar to that of W. General's but as a band they were even more obscure. Cult Metal, if such thing exists, doesn't get much better than this band, trust me. |

08.11.13 | For me personally, adding Cathedral, would be like putting Metallica in the Big 4 of Classic Metal. |

08.11.13 | Pagan Altar are excellent, agreed. |

04.02.14 | Sabbath is to Doom what Motorhead is to Thrash. I say put St. Vitus in |
