Objectively Greatest British Bands Ever

I will try to rank on an objective way the best rever British band (no solo artists) using the rfollowing criteria: 1 Commercial impact 2 Musical rand Critical Impact 3 Cultural Impact. The list rDOES NOT reflect my personal tasterNote: On prog rock bands here (Genesis, Yes, rJethro Tull...), all of them pretty great, dont rforget the awful opinion most critics had and runfortunately still have on them
1The Beatles

Huge sales, impact, acclaim, everything. Dominated the 60s like no other band
dominated a decade... Influence on countless artists. Cannot be objectively
discussed as the 1st
2Pink Floyd

Huge sales, big tours, a lot of influence and acclaim. It is difficult to make a
undeniable masterpiece, these guys made 3.
3Led Zeppelin

They owned the transition from th 60s to th 70s, although they would let down
after Physical Graffiti. The big fathers of Heavy Metal (not the only, but the
biggest). Huge sales, influence, everything, the numbers are on their side.
4Rolling Stones

They have been around since the 60s, although they are mostly famed from the
first 2 decades. Big sales, huge touring act, they created and lived through the
greatest rock n roll band moniker for a long time
5The Who

Forfathers of punk, rock operas and even britpop: hugely influential. Very good
sales, and some undeniable masterpieces. Probably on top 3 live acts ever
6Queen

Never favourites of the critics, but these guys have tons of influence (just
look at
acts past the 80s that mention their inspiration), have huge sales and tour and
they were consistently on top through the 70s and the 80s (alhtough better in
the
70s). Even my grandmother knew them
7Black Sabbath

Probably the main influence on a lot of heavy metal, their run until 1975 is
faboulous (1980s heaven and hell is great as well). they had awesome riffs,
great
lyrics, a great sound and pretty good sales. If a guy likes just a little bit of
metal he
HAS to like them... Heavy metal would be a different thing without them
8The Clash

They lasted for 6 years (not counting Cut the Crap, otherwise their rating
falls),
but during those years they were untouchable, and made songs in every style
possible from their original punk, to ska, 50s rock, reagge, etc. London Calling
is
considered by pretty much every reliable critic had a landmark album, and the
other
albums are good as well. They were the greatest british punk act (yes, greater
than Sex Pistols)
9The Police

Before Sting's ego took the better hand, they were during 5 years one of the top
5
singles act ever, and all their albums are pretty good - critics like them, the
public
liked them, and their songs have stood the test of time. they could have lasted
for
long, but they broke up when they were one of the biggest and best bands in the
world
10Cream

Yes, not a long time together - but hard rock probably started with them, and
they
mixed it with psycadelia and blues in a very acclaimed combination. The 3
players in
the band were incredible at what they did. The albums sold reasonably, and the
band members (especially Clapton) would go on to good solo careers. Tons of
influence for such a small amount of time together
11Radiohead
12The Kinks
13Iron Maiden
14Deep Purple
15Roxy Music
16Coldplay
17The Cure
18The Smiths
19Oasis
20Sex Pistols
21Judas Priest
22Genesis
23Yes
24King Crimson
25Blur
26Depeche Mode
27Jethro Tull
