03.08.13 | WHY SO SERIOUS
|
YankeeDudel
03.08.13 | mike what are you spewing rap is great its hip hop that sucks |
Mike08
03.08.13 | I like rap in moderation. Stuff like some 2pac, Liguid Swords, Marshall Mathers LP, My Dark Twisted Fantasy, Revolutionary Vol. 2, Roots- Undun, 36 Chambers, Pubic Enemy... and a few others.
I think my general distaste for this music stems from the fact that I see vocals as background to the music. Rap has lyrics and beats as the main attraction, and I have difficulty being engaged for the whole album. Rap can be good, even really good sometimes, but this is a top 100 list.
And I don’t care for hip-hop at all. At least rap tries for intellectual lyrics. Trebor, I wasn’t able to finish my paragraph.

03.08.13 | Great to see 6 so high up, classic album. |
Trebor.
03.08.13 | ummm do you call rock music guitar? |
YankeeDudel
03.08.13 | mike there is no difference between rap and hip hop i think you are confused. hip hop is the whole general movement/subculture and rap is just the actual rapping, but the way you're talking is like they're completely different genres i mean what. |
Trebor.
03.08.13 | I think he means instrumental hip hop cuz he has nujabes on here or something
And he said he sees vocals as background music but he loves Bob Dylan and shit and it's like wut |
Mike08
03.08.13 | I'm not anal about dividing my genres. I generally see vocals as less important than drums, guitar, bass, piano... I do not think there are many gifted vocalists, so albums that rely heavily on vocals quickly get disinteresting. The portion of rap and hip-hop I enjoy have intellectual lyrics.
Nujabes fuses jazz and hip-hop together, and I enjoy this combination alot. Nujabes is also fairly intelligent. I think generally Bob Dylan has an awful voice, but he is an amazing lyricist. And when I say I don't like vocals, I mean generally.
Someone who is gifted intellectually, lyrically, and in some ways vocally is Sixto Rodriguez. |
GnarlyShillelagh
03.08.13 | you like 48 more than jd? |
Trebor.
03.08.13 | Reading all that just made me dumber
|
Mike08
03.08.13 | you like 48 more than jd?
- Alot more actually. Everyone loves JD and I tried repeatedly to get into that album; it didn't work. I dismissed the band and picked up the new album out of whim. It far exceeded all my low expectations. |
YankeeDudel
03.08.13 | Mike i reiterate you are confused. Rap and hip hop are the same thing. Without rap you just have instrumental hip hop, so if thats what you like just say that. |
Mike08
03.08.13 | YankeeDudel what is the difference, for example, between Hypnotized Big Gemini and Public Enemy? Cause I guess thats the difference to me. I agree the act of rapping is used in both hip-hop and rap genre. |
YankeeDudel
03.08.13 | ITS THE SAME THING WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT |
demigod!
03.08.13 | rap aint a genre lol

03.08.13 | looool |
Mike08
03.08.13 | I am not extensively knowledgeable about the two genres hip-hop and rap. I have some albums I like, but the genre's appeal is limited to me. Thats all I'm going to say on the matter.
Yankee- I've always seen hip- hop and rap as two different genres. what distinguishes the two; or is this distinction a false label? |
YetAnotherBrick
03.08.13 | pretty sure he's said a number of times that it is indeed a false label |
YankeeDudel
03.08.13 | Ha okay man lets try this one more time
There are not two different genres.
There is just hip hop.
Rap is only the vocal technique used in hip hop.
|
Mike08
03.08.13 | Alright thanks Yankee. Got any recs guys? |
Atari
