Chortles

YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | Metal Box's basslines are so infectious you wont be able to sleep for weeks
but its worth it |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | same as it always is |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | Public Image was my very first post punk band. I just kept stumbling upon them but never bothered to listen. I gave a listen to first issue because I was on a classic punk binge, and thank God I did. But to be honest, if I had listened to Metal Box first, I wouldn't have appreciated them nearly as much as I do now. |
Chortles
03.09.13 | dudes i listened to feelies today
i lost control of my booty for 40 minute
thought you guys should know |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | "But to be honest, if I had listened to Metal Box first, I wouldn't have appreciated them nearly as much as I do now."
Whys that? |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | I'll love bauhaus stuff. I only listened to one album of theirs, but every other new dark wave band I come across and that I love get compared to bauhaus. |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | "But to be honest, if I had listened to Metal Box first, I wouldn't have appreciated them nearly as much as I do now."
Yankee...
I LOVE POP PUNK!
Or I used to. Most of it bores me now (except for nostalgic digs which are forever). I listened to First Issue when pop punk was like 25 % of my pie chart. |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | Now im just confused and befuddled |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | about what? |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | Are you saying First Issue is poppier and you liked it more because you liked pop punk? and you wouldnt have liked Metal
Box as much? |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | Yeah, First Issue is much more accessible, in my opinion. :/ I liked accessible things then, and still
do, probably always. I'm saying that I liked First Issue so much, that I wanted to explore this "post
punk". If I had listened to Metal Box first, I'd probably deem it too boring and never want anything
to do with post punk anymore. |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | nothing wrong with accessible music meng. most of these are accessible which is why they got popular. i just prefer when it has an experimental edge too, which alot of post-punk does which is why its my jam. |
Cygnatti
03.09.13 | All I need to say is, Public Image influenced my (music) life for da better, and I am grateful forever for that. |
YankeeDudel
03.09.13 | Ha nice man yea Lydon def upgraded from the sex pistols thats fer sure, although the sex pistols are still fun. |
Cygnatti
03.10.13 | this mash up makes me smile.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t5rFK_v890 |
Cygnatti
03.10.13 | I have to say, sex pistols are way underrated by some people. They are such fun. |
YankeeDudel
03.10.13 | Cool jam right there.
The pistols are underrated and overrated ha. So Id say they're about right. Bollocks is a solid 3.5-4 album and obv very influential. I just think PIL is much more interesting, like alot of post-punk when compared to punk for me. |
foxblood
03.10.13 | it's starting to piss me off that the feelies don't have a review |
YankeeDudel
03.10.13 | yea thats an album most of sputnik should easily love too
about 15 of these still need reviews but a couple with a decent amount of ratings are glaring like the feelies, siouxsie, the gun club, the cramps, wire, swell maps, the fall, chrome, clan of xymox, etc fuck it they all need one |
atrink
03.10.13 | Bookmarked. Thanks for letting me know about this |
Apollo
03.10.13 | feature this shit |
YankeeDudel
03.13.13 | All this prog talk lately but wheres the damn post-punk?
It seems alot of people into prog here dont really seem to dig post-punk too for some reason. To me post-punk continued the spirit of prog in its experimental ways, but made it a little darker and catchier. They're two genres I feel are pretty closely related, or maybe Im wrong? |
Cygnatti
03.13.13 | how many people on here actually listen to da post punx?
yeah, post punx was/is very experimental, which is awesome. one could certainly argue that they had the spirit of prog. I personally find prog, at least earlier prog/non-prog metal, to be really catchy: yes, moody blues, and king crimson. |
Funeralopolis
03.13.13 | violent femmes |
YankeeDudel
03.13.13 | Yea early prog can be catchy but it was starting to get a little out of hand and derivative by the mid-late 70s, which is why punk was needed to ground things again even if Im not a huge fan of straight punk. Post-Punk though experimented more and basically took over the more left field side of things when prog fell off.
But yea there really doesnt seem to be many post-punk listeners here outside of the biggest bands, which is weird because its more recent and mostly more accessible than prog. |
Wanderlustforlife
03.20.13 | I am in love with this list. I also thought I should add that "Television" don't really fit into the post-punk category. Marquee moon was released in 1977 and that's pretty damn early in the history of punk. There's nothing "post" about it. They are pioneers. |
Wanderlustforlife
03.20.13 | Plus thunder and consolations is one of the best albums ever made that sure as hell needs more recognition. I have the cover tattood on my left arm. |
Cygnatti
03.20.13 | still jam the feelies. |
YankeeDudel
03.20.13 | Marquee Moon is borderline post-punk you're right. It was more of a precursor but still figured they needed to be here. Like I said some of these arent 100% post-punk but I tried to make the list varied with different sounds. |
AutumnTurnsCold
03.25.13 | Great list, a lot of my favorite Goth albums. |
YankeeDudel
03.25.13 | cool. listening to 17 now its funky as hell the bass lines are friccin perfection |
