20 Great Singles
A list of 20 singles that stand out to me. |
| 1 | | Our Lady Peace Happiness is not a fish that you can catch
"One Man Army" - One of those rare albums where every song delivers, especially
"Stealing Babies". |
| 2 | | Revis Places For Breathing
"Seven" - As much as I love "Caught In The Rain", this is the song that truly left a
mark on me. |
| 3 | | Rival Sons Pressure And Time
"All Over The Road" - Makes me wanna party hard every day I hear it. |
| 4 | | Sevendust Cold Day Memory
"Forever" - I definitely underestimated this song when I first heard it, thinking it's a
4 out of 5 or somewhere around those lines, but now I think it's a perfect 5 just
based on that incredible drumming alone, but the song really does hold up the more
I hear it. However, I do think that their newest single, "Decay" (off of their
upcoming album, Black Out The Sun), sounds way better. |
| 5 | | Walk The Moon Walk The Moon
"Quesadilla" - Just so catchy. One of my favourite albums from last year. |
| 6 | | Deftones Diamond Eyes
"Diamond Eyes" - Words can't even describe how much I love this song. That
chorus has gotta be among the best choruses that I've ever heard. |
| 7 | | Unwritten Law Elva
"Seein' Red" - Looking back on it, I'm surprised with the songs they picked as
singles for this album. "Rest Of My Life" would have been a great choice too, but
"Seein' Red" is really good as well. |
| 8 | | Foo Fighters Wasting Light
"White Limo" - Definitely reminds me of the Deftones song "Rocket Skates", and it
marks a great change of pace for the band (which started losing momentum after
their previous two middle-of-the-road efforts). |
| 9 | | Soundgarden Superunknown
"Superunknown" - Might be my favourite track on the album too. |
| 10 | | Cage The Elephant Cage The Elephant
"In One Ear" - Can't get enough of this one. Puts me in the perfect selling mood. |
| 11 | | Chevelle Hats Off To The Bull
"Face To The Floor" - Great to see that these guys are still capable of making
strangely catchy tunes. |
| 12 | | Staind Staind
"Eyes Wide Open" - Just blew me away when I first heard this album. I heard "Not
Again" beforehand, and that song's just as excellent too, but this song sold me on
Staind as a legitimate hard rock band that actually rocks hard. That break before
the final chorus is mindblowing. |
| 13 | | 10 Years Feeding The Wolves
"Fix Me" - The singer's voice sounds a bit weird at first, but once the chorus
arrives... you'll be sold, but I love it more for the lyrics than the guy's vocal
capabilities anyway. |
| 14 | | Rise Against Appeal To Reason
"Re-Education (Through Labour)" - Absolutely love this song. Inspired me to buy the
entire album but, to my disappointment, the album didn't quite stack up to the
greatness of this amazing track. |
| 15 | | Frank Ocean Channel Orange
"Thinkin' Bout You" - A refreshing pop album that benefits from having some of the
smoothest lyrics ever presented, largely present as well in this amazing single. |
| 16 | | Arkells Jackson Square
"The Ballad of Hugo Chavez" - Such a happy, upbeat song. Perfect for the summer
months. |
| 17 | | blink-182 Enema of the State
"All The Small Things" - Probably the funniest music video I've ever seen. |
| 18 | | Rage Against The Machine The Battle of Los Angeles
"Sleep Now In The Fire" - That opening alone takes the prize. |
| 19 | | Alter Bridge Blackbird
"Watch Over You" - Beautiful song. |
| 20 | | Weezer The Blue Album
"Buddy Holly" - The song that sold everyone on this band, and one of the best
music videos of all-time. |
