Ali's 2013: January

I couldn't find the time nor the motivation to make a proper 2012 list. I'm sure you're all devastated, so by way of consolation here are my 10 favourite records of the past month, in no particular order. What have been your favourites?
1L. Pierre
The Island Come True

All hail Lord Moffat! Best album yet from the former Arab Strap singer/mumbler's abstract electronic solo project.
2Wounds
Die Young

Incendiary hardcore from Ireland. Reminds me of Gallows' Orchestra Of Wolves.
3I Am Kloot
Let It All In

A real slow burner that'll strike a chord if you're into slow burners like The National, Wilco or fellow Mancs Elbow.
4Foxygen
We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors...

I've not really been impressed with Foxygen until this point, but this record is filled with classic pop songwriting.
5Broadcast
Berberian Sound Studio

A atmospheric and unsettling soundtrack to Peter Strickland's film of the same name. Great stuff.
6ASAP Rocky
LongLiveA$AP

I enjoyed this a lot more than Live.Love.ASAP. The Skrillex collaboration is shite though.
7Rick Redbeard
No Selfish Heart

Miserable Scottish folk music with an awesome baritone. What's not to love?! His main occupation, The Phantom Band are really great too.
8Indians
Somewhere Else

Really lovely folk/dream pop, well worth a listen if you're into Youth Lagoon, Bon Iver etc.
9Bad Religion
True North

Another Bad Religion album. Another good Bad Religion album. Take it or leave it.
10Villagers
{Awayland}

Conor O'Brien still sounds frighteningly like Conor Oberst, but he's a good enough songwriter to get away with it. 'Nothing Arrived' in particular is magnificent.
