01.27.13 | I think musical taste says alot about a person. If someone tells you they listen to Korn and Linkin Park, there's really only so many conclusions you can draw from that information. |
Omaha
01.27.13 | If people can explain reasonably why they like what they like, I don't give a single fuck.
Of course, that implies they'll like more thoughtful things *shrugs* which ain't no problem, man |

01.27.13 | I think having compatible tastes is more important in films because then you can go to the cinema together etc... it's more of a social thing. Whereas music is a more personal experience so it doesn't really matter as much. |
Wolfhorde
01.27.13 | "I think musical taste says alot about a person"
No, it doesn't. It CAN, but there's no necessary causation. Only possible correlation.
Also, I don't give a fuck. If a person is wag, a person is wag. End of story. |
YankeeDudel
01.27.13 | I still listen to Korn and Linkin Park so fluck you flaggot |

01.27.13 | it matters not to me, my best friend doesnt even listen to music. And even if he did it'd be EDM or something and i dont like that at all |

01.27.13 | Quite frankly, people who judge other people and cherrypick their friends by their musical taste are probably ginormous dickheads. |

01.27.13 | In my case, it's not a problem, as long as they are good to talk or have fun with. However, I do enjoy
having friends who prefer more relevant topics (so called "intellectual"). Music is just another way
to make bonds, and not the most important.
By the way, wtf if up with artwork |

01.27.13 | none of my friends have good music taste who cares. |
CrimsonLies
01.27.13 | Music means a lot to me so finding someone who shares similar tastes automatically gives me some kind of bond, dare I say, trust with that person since music is such a big part of my life and how I see myself. When I meet someone with terrible taste in music, I wonder is it because they haven't been exposed to much music, or if they genuinely like the music, but in the end it doesn't really matter to me. I find people who judge others for their music taste to be idiots and probably don't have many friends. Those I consider friends don't have very good music taste so I feel like they don't really know me in that aspect but at the end of the day, it's just music. Though I feel that music can tell a bit about someone's personality (only some of the time), music is a form of entertainment/art and everyone is free to listen to whatever they feel like. |

01.27.13 | Yea I agree that if someone has a good music taste it is just a common interest that helps you get along with them easier but isn't necessary. |
LowStandards
01.27.13 | I don't think it matters a whole lot when creating bonds, but it really depends. Music is a big thing for me, and I like talking about it. As for someone's taste, that doesn't necessarily matter. Someone could listen to pretty much every genre I dislike, but I could still respect them and find something to talk about. I value someone who expands and explores what they like, challenging themselves, rather than someone who just has a "super" on the last.fm compatibility. |

Its like those people on IMDB who watch nothing but silent movies and judge everybody else as a Transformers fan who likes nothing but special effects if you dare criticize anything before 1960. Basically those people are stupid and the same applies to music. |

01.27.13 | This may or may not be a true story but I read once that Merle Haggard was cruising around Bakersfield with his girl and he was jammin' Bob Wills on the car stereo. And his girl asked him to change the station so they could listen to something more 'current'. Supposedly Merle Haggard stopped the car right then and there on the road. He got out of the car went over to the passenger side and through that woman on the ground, got back in the car and continued to listen to the King of Texas.
Take from that what you will. Probably that throwing around women like thay were property was something you could get away with in the 60s. Also that Haggard loves his Bob Wills music. |
Thanatopsis
01.27.13 | I consider music taste paramount, but strong opinions about film, books, or television can be substituted if necessary. As others have said, being passionate about something that is not generic, pop culture bullshit is more important than having "good" taste in music. |

InnocentShadow
01.27.13 | it's cool to find someone who listens to music that is not solely commercially-driven. it doesn't matter much to me though; it's more of an "icing on the cake" type of thing
on the other hand, if i know of someone who is passionate about an artist who does not hold much artistic credibility, some questioning is bound to arise. for example, if you like radio music, that's good, that's great, but if you start hailing these radio artists as music gods, that is just wrong |

spillingmercury
01.27.13 | hmm it depends on their reason for listening to shit music. a lot of the times music doesn't take precedence in their life, or not for the same reason it does for me. a lot of my piano major friends don't really explore outside of classical music, so they're into pop just because it's a nice break and it allows them to relate to music in the way most of their friends do, which is casually. most of my friends don't have the same music taste as me, or interest in music at all. i don't mind. i've gotten used to it.
when it comes to intimate relationships though, i'd feel more comfortable with someone who's into art and music at the same degree, if not moreso, than myself, just identifying as an artist and all. it's hard for me to separate myself from that and when i do i feel like i'm being forced to for the sake of being social.
then again just because you have the same interests as me doesn't mean i don't think you're a total dick. |
ViralOblivion
01.27.13 | I agree with six if you have a buddy and you guys listen to the same exact things its cool to talk to your friends but its not a deal breaker for me if they listen to more generic stuff |

01.27.13 | music taste doesnt affect my opinion but if they are male and say their favorite movie is something like Twilight id think they were a cock |
VermicideReloadead
01.27.13 | Don't care about that, cuz I listen some music which is condemmed by the typical grown up fag or the most purist circles. But if somebody starts to attack my musical taste without attacking them or if they say that some of my favorite bands are awful and they listen shit like lame mainstream hip hop, faggy pop punk, crunkcore and generic pop rock I'm sure that my response won't be the most friendly one. Also with a lot of my friends I share other things besides music music, with my friends I have some similar tastesin video games, movies, art, books, sports and others things like that. |
Crymsonblaze
01.27.13 | Film taste and musical taste are fairly important in a friendship just for the sake of things in common, but I'd say sense of humor definitely trumps them, along with just general attitude/demeanor. |

01.27.13 | one thing that matters to me when making friends is whether or not the person becomes friends with
people based on music taste
if the person does this, s/he is most likely (to quote wolf) a ginormous dickhead.
besides this is why you need to not be so 1337 and jam some pop, pop-punk, Beatles, etc. Appeals to
everyone so you have some mutual stuff to jam in the car or at a party or whatever. |
bakkermaarten007
01.27.13 | It tends to get more serious when I spend too much time on this site. It's true that music taste is
only an additional benefit, it can say a lot about a person but not necessarily. Only if you're really
committed, does it say quite a bit imo. |
Pawpnbawtlez
01.27.13 | definitely, if someone has no taste in music at all, it basically describes the person being dry and boring.
You can tell alot about a person just by knowing what they listen to.
Music taste influences fashion and personality. |

Honestly, I can understand some people who don't occupy themselves a lot with music. If one does not know where to look for the music he/she would like and only hears the mainstream stuff it's hard to get immersed in it. |
KSK1
01.27.13 | It's pretty insignificant. Being able to share music with someone is always a treat but most of my friends listen to garbage and it's fine with me. I have one friend that has really similar taste in music it's definitely one of the reasons her an I get along so well. |

I thought that was a prominent stereotype surrounding metalheads - that they're very closeminded and arrogant when it comes to other ideas/music. |

I guess it goes 1. Looks 2. personality 3. Music taste |

My girl has always loved good music. Hence one of the many reasons we connect on so many levels. I was impressed, and consistently am. |
