01.23.13 | could be a lot worse. Could be a lot better |
Alastor
01.23.13 | I was actually quite surprised that no Hip-Hop artist made the list. |
Inferis
01.23.13 | you know what? Fuck Swans. |
Havey
01.23.13 | tribe called quest and gangstarr should both b pretty close |
YoYoMancuso
01.23.13 | Yeah I thought for sure Public Enemy would be on here |
Spag
01.23.13 | I was gonna laugh if Converge was on here. |
Alastor
01.23.13 | Public Enemy missed the list by an inch. But so did many bands. |
Havey
01.23.13 | not really the most consistent bands either tbh, Overkill is like the most inconsistent band ever |
Havey
01.23.13 | rush, bowie and dylan all have their fair share of shitty albums as well |
MO
01.23.13 | ha no radiohead nice |
Calc
01.23.13 | fuk i almost found another two more |
Alastor
01.23.13 | I agree, most of these bands don't seem to be consistent at all. But some of their latest offerings are still as good as their old classic albums. See Rush or Overkill. |
Trebor.
01.23.13 | I think The Bends used to have a 4.2 |
apert
01.23.13 | surprising to Overkill here, thought Megadeth would make the list as well
alot of these bands are not consistent though, alot of these bands have released a few albums which pretty bad and not rated highly |
theacademy
01.23.13 | 1 2 and 3 are absolute heinous shit and i would rather die than listen to just a few seconds of any of their material |
Alastor
01.23.13 | @Trebor17: That is probably true, but also for other bands that missed the 4.2 or a decent amount of votes (Prince, GodspeedYou! Buckethead). |
Chortles
01.23.13 | you can't deny all time gr8 status tho havey |
Calc
01.23.13 | genesis and king crimson are fuking close too |
cb123
01.23.13 | i think The Mountain Goats have four over 4.2.....i think
EDIT: Not quite my bad |
Yotimi
01.23.13 | I think theres a few more. I did this one time at work when i was bored and wrote it down there. I think its still on my desk somewhere |
Trebor.
01.23.13 | I went into the future and The National's new album got a 4.2 so they'll be on here |
Trebor.
01.23.13 | People underrate Kill Em All on here so no Metallica |
Calc
01.23.13 | this is killing me i wanna find one more but keep finding 4.1 on the last one |
Alastor
01.23.13 | Metallica SHOULD be on here, but the users of Sputnik sadly decided to vote 3.9 for Kill Em All. Seriously what's up with that? |
apert
01.23.13 | yeah how is kill em all only at 3.9, same shit with Killing is my business, 2 seriously underrated albums here |
Alastor
01.23.13 | @ Calc: Yeah, I made the same experience. But if you would decide to include albums with 4.1, the list would be ten times longer and hence less interesting. |
Calc
01.23.13 | yeah i completely agree im gonna look for like 10 more minutes lol |
Spag
01.23.13 | KEA was the best Muhtowelikuh! seriously though everything on there except maybe Phantom Lord ruled |
Ignimbrite
01.23.13 | Death and Neurosis
the rest aren't really my thing |
apert
01.23.13 | someone should try doing this but with a certain percentage of albums over 4.4, because some of these bands have released so many albums its easier for them to meet this criteria.
For instance you could over 50% of albums over 4.1, or something like that |
Calc
01.23.13 | cuz all of these were popular 20-30+ years ago |
Alastor
01.23.13 | @apert: That sounds interesting, but pretty damn hard to do. It also would be interesting to see a list with albums over 4.5, for they are very rare. |
savagecabbage
01.23.13 | Very good to see Neurosis on here |
Calc
01.23.13 | fuk it i quit i found like 6 almosts lol
i'd pos this list if I could |
Alastor
01.23.13 | @Calc: Thank you. I'll keep searching and try to update the list, but it may take a while until I stumble upon a new band. |
apert
01.23.13 | it would require alot of effort but it would show the actual consistent bands and would be interesting to see which bands actually made it |
Alastor
01.23.13 | Well, the most consistent band of all time will forever be Joy Division. |
VermicideReloadead
01.23.13 | Never thought that I would see here alice cooper. |
newjunk2
01.23.13 | "you know what? Fuck Swans."
I don't see how they make people so angry. Most bands that make experimental music just get ignored or brushed off by people who aren't in to that kind of stuff. Swans on the other hand seem to really piss people off. My theory is that the people who don't like them still recognize how great they are and are pissed that they can't enjoy their music because of their obviously inferior tastes so they project their anger onto the band and their fans. |
Storm In A Teacup
01.23.13 | I knew it was Sputnik with the bad taste and not I. |
Yotimi
01.24.13 | I thought there were a few more but I think you got them all. Bruce Springsteen and Nick Cave come real close. |
Calc
07.19.14 | my fave list ever |
unaMUSEd
07.19.14 | Radiohead are 0.1 away from being on here wow. |
Alastor
09.18.15 | just updated the list. three bands got kicked out: overkill, the national and swans. |
BeyondCosby
09.18.15 | Don't forget Deafhaven..... lol.... |
Alastor
09.18.15 | the only new addition is: savatage! (*badum-tish*)
funny how album scores change over time. |
ArsMoriendi
09.18.15 | Add The Mothers of Invention to the list:
Freak Out! - 4.2 (369 votes)
Absolutely Free - 4.2 (209 votes)
We're Only in It for the Money - 4.3 (307 votes)
Uncle Meat - 4.2 (126 votes)
One Size Fits All - 4.2 (126 votes) |
Alastor
09.18.15 | damn how did I miss them...thanks Ars |
SharkTooth
09.18.15 | Funkadelic mate |
Alastor
09.18.15 | @Shark: close, but not quite |
Alastor
09.18.15 | YES, King Crimson and Genesis also made the list this time. added them as well. |
tacos n stuff
09.18.15 | no swans? Thank fucking god |
Alastor
09.18.15 | that was by far the greatest surprise. the seer and the great annihilator both dropped in scores over the past years. |
tacos n stuff
09.18.15 | If ozric tentacles had more votes they may have made it, their earlier discog is all scored pretty highly |
manosg
09.18.15 | Seeing Savatage on this list is a huge surprise for me. |
Alastor
09.18.15 | yeah, they outrivaled metallica. |
ArsMoriendi
09.18.15 | Honestly, I'm just surprised that Alice Cooper is on here... does he even have fans that are currently active on Sputnik? |
smaugman
09.18.15 | camel |
Alastor
09.18.15 | mostly guitar centered music. still no hip-hop, no electronic. brian eno and public enemy came real close though. |
Calc
11.19.15 | bump for super well researched list |
CamiloG
11.19.15 | Where's The National? |
ArsMoriendi
11.19.15 | The National is 1 album short of making the list. |
Calc
11.19.15 | thats exactly the band that made me bump this lol |
CamiloG
11.19.15 | Sorry I didn't read list description before posting that comment, though I consider it deserves to be on the list. |
Calc
11.19.15 | if we could make our own rules life would be grand huh |
bagof4grapes
11.19.15 | Was kinda expecting nin and tool. |
ArsMoriendi
11.19.15 | I mean a lot of bands would need to be added if it was 3 albums instead of 4 with a 4.2 or higher... such as The National, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Mr. Bungle, Can, and Radiohead, Zappa's solo career...
Especially since Bungle and The Experience can't be eligible ever since they only have 3 studio albums...
Interesting though. |
Calc
11.19.15 | that's why its a good list, the entry is high so there's not 120 bands in it |
frigyourgenre
11.19.15 | yay camel |
zakalwe
11.19.15 | The Who
The Clash
The Smiths
Public Enemy

Velvet Underground
Pavement
Pearl Jam
Radiohead
Nirvana
The Cure
Sepultura
Metallica

ArsMoriendi
11.19.15 | None of those bands have 4 albums with scores 4.2 or higher except for Bowie who's already on here^ |
zakalwe
11.19.15 | 4.2 ratings be damned.
|
Madbutcher3
11.19.15 | can people vote for pat metheny group albums, he has like 9 albums which are 4.2 and above |
zakalwe
11.19.15 | R.E.M
Can
Pixies
PJ Harvey
Sex Pistols
XTC
Talk Talk
Massive Attack
Yo La Tengo
Underworld
Alice in Chains
Jethro Tull
Faith no More
Ian Dury and the Blockheads
King Crimson
|
ArsMoriendi
11.19.15 | "can people vote for pat metheny group albums, he has like 9 albums which are 4.2 and above"
Is anybody reading the rules... the abums need at least 100 votes... most Pat Metheny albums have like 15 or less votes...
@Zak: lol I love most of that list haha, especally PJ Harvey :) |
zakalwe
11.19.15 | She's no Savatage.
|
bagof4grapes
11.19.15 | This is a very interesting list.
Are there any bands with 4 averages over a 4.5? |
ArsMoriendi
11.19.15 | "Are there any bands with 4 averages over a 4.5?"
No. |
zakalwe
11.19.15 | The Beatles are probably the closest but having said that we are talking sput so MCR possibly. |
ArsMoriendi
11.19.15 | True, The Beatles will have 4 albums 4.5+ is a ton of people troll 5 The White Album since it's sitting at 4.4 |
Alastor
11.19.15 | "Are there any bands with 4 averages over a 4.5?"
Nope. Bob Dylan is the only artist to have 4 albums rated 4.5. Pink Floyd is the only band with more than one album at 4.6 average.
|
Alastor
11.19.15 | On a personal note, I hope Moonsorrow will make this list with their new album. |
YetAnotherBrick
11.19.15 | um where's Radiohead
other than that strange absence, and The National yeah, this list is pretty sweet i'd say. we should be proud |
chemicalmarriage
11.19.15 | let's jerk each other off for these great choices |
Storm In A Teacup
11.20.15 | I'd have far more interest in a list of bands where the qualifications are at least 3 albums with a minimum of 1,000 votes and each one with at least an avg rating of 3.8. I know Chevelle would make it in =) |
Madbutcher3
11.20.15 | Ars I read the rules dawg I was saying people should actually rate his albums so he has enough ratings, he's sick nasty and super good |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | If people would wake up to the fact Trouble Will Find Me is at least the equal of any other National album then that band would join this illustrious list. F*ck the misplaced 'oh they're popular now' backlash lol |
bagof4grapes
11.20.15 | I would love to see a list like this for the worst artists of all time. The artist needs to have 3 albums with a minimum of 100 votes with at most an average rating of 1.5. |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | bag- Someone get to it...guessing Nickelback would make that one.
Woud any artists make both lists? Bowie has some dirt albums |
bagof4grapes
11.20.15 | Nickelback actually woulnd't qualify for that list. BrokeNCYDE and BODF do though
Bowie wouldn't make it either. His lowest averages are in the 2s.
|
Zig
11.20.15 | Doesn't seem fair to include Miles Davis or Coltrane since they're not bands; in that case, no Beethoven? |
Alastor
11.20.15 | Classical composers are a different thing obv. They wouldn't make the list anyway due to a shameful lack of votes on their "albums". |
Alastor
01.22.16 | r.i.p. Savatage. It was fun while it lasted. |
adr
01.22.16 | add Charles Mingus bro (yea one of the albums has 80 votes instead of 100, but srsly who cares), it deserves to be on the list |
adr
01.22.16 | the list will be more interesting with some obscure bands tbh u should scratch the 100 ratings rule |
ArsMoriendi
01.22.16 | "u should scratch the 100 ratings rule"
What so some band some guy 5'd 4 albums by will qualify? |
adr
01.22.16 | don't be a moron |
adr
01.22.16 | Swans should be here, they have 3 albums that are more than 4.2 and 3 that are at 4.1. If u count the live albums even more. The rules are shit. |
Alastor
01.22.16 | they were on here once. and probably will be again. |
theNateman
01.22.16 | Ugh yet again the beach boys are snubbed. |
Madbutcher3
01.23.16 | it doesn't help that there are basically whole genres on sputnik that never get attention. jazz fusion, classic rock, classical and early jazz don't get rated on here but it's kinda self explanatory that loads of constituent artists are classic |
Alastor
01.23.16 | As time moves on, people will rate more albums; and as sputnik is eternal, someday these artists will be on here too.
|
Alastor
01.23.16 | Update: Seems like good ol' Brian Eno is now joining the lot as the first electronic artist. |
DoofusWainwright
01.23.16 | Camel, Opeth and Neurosis are sputcore confirmed |
sputnik1
01.23.16 | Coroner
|
Emyay
01.23.16 | Alice Cooper? Wtf |
Alastor
03.14.16 | Swans is back on the list. But for how long? |
DoofusWainwright
03.14.16 | The National would be here if people didn't dump on Trouble Will Find Me for whatever reason |
Alastor
05.21.16 | Updated. Radiohead is finally on the list. |
Deathconscious
05.21.16 | Not bad, sput, not bad. |
Alastor
05.22.16 | This list is growing with every year. New inductees include: Radiohead and Moonsorrow due to their latest albums/ Porcupine Tree and The Kinks due to their average scores rising. |
CalmTallMagician
05.22.16 | @Alastor
Why did you have to wait till Radiohead's newest album to add them? Not trying to be rude just curious. I feel like Ok, Kid, and In Rainbows alone make them worthy. |
Alastor
05.22.16 | Read the description, Magician. It's merely a collection of bands with a minimum of 4 albums with a score of 4.2+, not my personal taste. |
CalmTallMagician
05.22.16 | @Alastor
Oooh....sorry I'm dumb XD. Didn't read the description. Okay haha |
Sharkattack
06.10.19 | Update this |
Alastor
06.10.19 | lol ok.
Elliot Smith, The Kinks, Savatage, Porcupine Tree and even Stevie Wonder got kicked out.
New inductees include Nick Cave, Charles Mingus and Nobuo Uematsu, the last two due to reaching the 100 votes on an album of theirs. Koji Kondo is close, but needs 5 more votes on Windwaker. |
