The Engine Room
Saw this band live and that's when their 2012 release finally clicked with me. The
Engine Room focuses on trying to stay aggressive while being in a constricted
environment. For fans of Cursive, definitely give this one a listen. |

Arab Spring
This is a perfect example of what I wish indie music was like these days. Loud,
aggressive, and fun. One of my biggest pet peeves of indie music is how it typically
focuses on nostalgia and indecipherable vocals. But with Arab Spring, Literature
focuses on immediacy and abrasive vocals. Very fun listen. |

Love is Love // Return To Dust
A Slightly disappointing, but still impressive first full length effort from Pittsburgh's
Code Orange Kids. They combine many elements of hardcore, sludge, and thrash,
but also focus on beauty. Really interesting album. |

American Radass (this is important)
This year was a little lacking from the emo genre, but Dads definitely made a stand
out effort this year with their first release. It's everything you'd expect from a new
emo bands' first official effort, thought i'm not saying it's bad, it's just a little
predictable. |

TNGHT
Two great producers proving what they're best at. This short taste-test of a
release really shows that Hudson Mohawke and Lunice know what makes greatly
produced beats. "Higher Ground" is an amazing example of this. |

Shrines
A really refreshing take on indie/electronica music. Purity Ring has definitely made a
very strong release that combines strong elements of hip-hop and pop music. Some
of these beats are worthy from the likes of Danny Brown and Ab Soul. |

NO LOVE DEEP WEB
I find no love deep web to be more of a relevant album than The Money Store. With
nldw, Death Grips definitely reached the sound (and purpose) of what they were
trying to achieve in the first place. |

No Absolutes in Human Suffering
Face-melting, greatly produced sludge/hardcore release from Salt Lake City's own
Gaza. |
| 7 |  | Killer Mike
R.A.P. Music
A great hip hop album that I feel will go under that radar this year. A lot of
standout moments on this album like "Reagan" and "Don't Die". |

All We Love We Leave Behind
A great album from the most consistently good hardcore/metal band. Nothing really
to say about it, other than it's fantastic. |

Dark World
A lot of people probably aren't fond of this release, and i understand their reasoning
for it. But I just love the catchy hooks and sadness, don't know why. |
| 4 |  | Kendrick Lamar
good kid, m.A.A.d city
No one can deny that Kendrick is one of the most talented rappers out there. And
he put together a rap masterpiece with some of the best producers in the genre. |

Swearin'
Love those punchy guitar tones. Great song writing and pop structure too. In my
opinion the best pop-structured album of the year. |

Just Married
I love their take on the emo genre. This year I've grown a little tired of the genre,
but Just Married brings a new level to the very predictable type of music. Also a
very well put together album. |

Channel Orange
Always an exceptional listen from beginning to end. It's one of those albums that
will stick with me for the rest of my life. A classic in my opinion. |
