The curious bunch |
ZGP1992
11.29.12 | And I didnt mean that they are all bad, its just some music isnt meant to be picked apart. I dont think I shouldve put lil b on this list because he is a thought provoking individual, so im going to replace him with Soulja Boy. |
ZGP1992
11.29.12 | people analyze brokencyde?
Some do, yes. |
sniper
11.29.12 | yeah. i think what you mean is that some music isn't intended to be an "artistic" statement per se, so why bother analyzing it? people have been over-analyzing music for centuries, it's just tradition. |
sniper
11.29.12 | i know what you mean though, critics hold artists to standards that the artists themselves are not working toward, which is silly. if you can't appreciate an entire style of music, why bother complaining about an artist who exhibits the characteristics of that style? it is meaningless criticism. |
ZGP1992
11.29.12 | I know. It just seems like the more creativity-challenged a musician is, the more people want to pick them apart and single them out. When the success of all of these musicians simply comes down to rehashing accessable sounds. |
sniper
11.29.12 | i suspect you're doing the thing i was just talking about lol. |
ZGP1992
11.29.12 | I was just saying if the artist holds no significance creatively, why single them out as if they have something worth being pondered over? |
sniper
11.29.12 | your assertion that the artists on this list are unworthy of criticism because you find them uncreative is in itself an unfair criticism of their work. your question is incredibly ironic. |
sniper
11.29.12 | my point is that criticism of any art is only as valid as the critic's ability to accept the art on the terms of the artist. on some level this means no criticism is truly valid, but the more a critic is able to understand what the artist is trying to communicate, the more meaningful his criticism. |

11.29.12 | We love to shit the works of poop made by the scum who has nothing more than 2 neurons, and that represents a threat against my intelligence, my art and my values. They must be confined in a cell with no food and light. |

11.29.12 | touche sniper dude, I stand corrected. |
sniper
11.29.12 | i mean you have a right to your opinions on music, and a right to share them, i just think people tend to be overly dismissive of styles they don't appreciate or understand. it's okay to talk about the value (or lack of value) of music, but the criticism should be based on defined parameters that can be debated. there is no doubt that creativity and uniqueness are admirable qualities in music, but without capable performers and coherency of artistic vision, music is meaningless. the value of music is not entirely dependent on any one of its facets, but it is up for debate which facets are the most important. |
