Mike Ness
Really starting to appreciate him as a songwriter/guitarist/vocalist more and more each day. Sputnik's thoughts on the Social Distortion frontman? |
| 1 | | Social Distortion Mommy's Little Monster
Some nice little straightforward classic/hardcore punk. |
| 2 | | Social Distortion Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes
Starting to think this album is in the same league with the self titled to be honest. All the song have such a down home feel to them it's hard to hate, definitley underrated. |
| 3 | | Oasis Definitely Maybe
The band and album that truly sparked my interest in songwriting, Noel is an absolute genius. |
| 4 | | Misfits Earth A.D.
Death Comes Ripping, that is all I have to say. |
| 5 | | Johnny Cash Live At Folsom Prison
Not big into country but I have a soft spot for artists like Cash and Hank Williams. Cash just oozed the eccence of cool in everything that he did. |
| 6 | | Theory of A Deadman Scars and Souvenirs
Not a huge fan of mainstream rock but for some reason I love these guys. The songwriting just seems so right. It's commercial but they're just well written songs with good hooks. I won't even call this a guilty pleasure, I do absolutely love this band. Prepare the flame shield. |
| 7 | | Sublime Sublime
The perfect mix of reggae, punk, and hip hop. What the Red Hot Chili Peppers did for a modern interpretation of funk rock, Sublime did the same to revolutionize ska punk. The highlight of the album for me is always Seed. |
| 8 | | Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
For the longest time I didn't get the hype surrounding this album and band but I'm starting to understand. The songs seem heartfelt and the lo-fi quality adds some much to the overall vibe of the album |
| 9 | | Mumford and Sons Sigh No More
Even though Sputnik gives them the strongarm of "meh" I will stand by this band. This album really opened my mind to the possibilities of manipulating folk music and from a more cynical standpoint, the commercial opportunities of folk influenced alt rock. Overall an excellent album that I will continue to love. Oh yeah, and they're great live, caught them at the Bristol date of the Gentlemen of The Road shows |
| 10 | | Down NOLA
A must have for fans of doom or sludge. I personally have been burnt out on heavy music for the longest time but doom and sludge always seem to appeal to me for some reason (could be the worshipping of Black Sabbath as a child, who knows?). This is one of those albums that I always seem to get lost in and just lay back and enjoy the experience. |
