MisterTornado
11.01.12 | @tarkus yup, the new bardo pond seems to drifting under the radar for some reason. it's excellent.
@Hyperion1001 mhm, check out Nightshade for sure.
@Aids both are quality. the OPN/Rene Hell split is glitchy and relatively abstract. If your into that I think you'll like it.
@WeepingBanana will do. Though O'Rourke's Old News series is alot more experimental than his stuff on Bad Timing, Eureka, and Insignificance. If that's what your going from.
@climactic Library Music refers to production and mood music found mostly in the 60s and 70s used in various media (Commercials, TV Shows, Movies, etc). Usually fits in with progressive electronic and various types of jazz.
@Havey I just discovered him this year, he's fantastic. Check out Songs About Nothing if you haven't already |

MisterTornado
11.01.12 | @livingisland Bashi's got 39 votes with a 4.1 right now. Overlooked, unknown? Nah.
@Dev Always thought it was a fusion of dubstep and hip hop. With that gittery, unstable sound.
@WeepingBanana Oh O'Rourke is in it? Didn't know that, definitely will check that out thanks. |
Deviant.
11.01.12 | "@Dev Always thought it was a fusion of dubstep and hip hop. With that gittery, unstable sound."
No, it's just a sound technique where people manipulate piano keys or strings
And stop with this future garage nonsense or I shall request a banning godammit!! |
MisterTornado
11.01.12 | Manipulate piano keys or strings? Sounds more like a classical term when you put it like that.
Prepared piano shit. Wonky may be a silly name, but guys like Fly Lo, Teebs, Shlomo, Rustie, & Hudson
Mohawke have this niche sound that's tough to classify. I say Wonky works well as a way to label it.
I'm curious as to what you would put instead, and why you think the term "future garage" is nonsense
lol |
MisterTornado
11.01.12 | s'all bullshit in the end |

They're all essentially just hip hop artists, though you could do the whole "experimental hip hop" thing
And future garage is just a bit of a joke; bringing a genre back that essentially died a few years earlier whist retaining the same sound doesn't make it "futuristic" or whatever. That, and Lapalux not having anything remotely to do with garage at all |

MisterTornado
11.01.12 | @Dev Hmm, I see where your coming from. Though I'm not sure, I'd tag stuff like Dalek, Deltron, Quasimoto, and Shabazz Palaces to be experimental hip hop, and when you've got guys like Fly Lo and Rustie thrown in that mix, it becomes even more confusing. I wasn't aware future garage had died, noted. |

MisterTornado
11.01.12 | @StrangerofSorts, You kind of have to take the "overlooked" part with a grain of salt on these lists. Mostly consists of stuff that may otherwise not get exposed here on Sputnik and people may enjoy.
@Hep Kat, I know there's a pack of jazz fiends here, and King Tears Bat Trip needs to be heard by them all.
@scissorlocked, Indeed, feel like alot of people would dig it. |

11.02.12 | what are 24 and 60 like? And how good are they? |
MisterTornado
11.02.12 | 24 is pretty dark, if your familiar with Locrian or Heemann's sound. Pretty ambitious stuff, mix of post-rock, noise, and drone. Whirling textures, thick orchestrations. I liked it, just found it be a little overlong. Definitely a grower. 60 is great. Cloudy drones under sunken jazz textures. |

@Yankee, it terms of uniqueness and originality, I think it'd go something like this...
1. Eli Keszler - Catching Net
2. King Tears Bat Trip - King Tears Bat Trip
3. Arca - Stretch 2
4. Jason Lescalleet - Songs About Nothing
5. Oneohtrix Point Never / Rene Hell - Split LP

11.18.12 | Finally got through all of these and picked up the following as a result - Cemeteries, Each Other, Naomi Punk, Mooncreatures, Strange Fires, Deerpeople, The UFO Club, Teen Daze, Goat, Sam Flax, Allah las, and Yowie.
As always, top notch work. I'd add a few hidden gems myself that I didn't see you post on any 3 lists that I don't feel have gotten quite enough recognition - PAWS, Swearin, Unsane, Empty Flowers, The Babies, Pontiak, Cate Le Bon, Moon Duo, METZ (I know, I know, they got a P4K BNM but still..), Mind Spiders, Lace Curtains, and the Soft Moon was underrated. |
MisterTornado
11.18.12 | Awesome, glad you liked all those. Yup see alot of good stuff in that pile, have yet to hear the new Babies. Hear it's good though. |

12.23.12 | I still need 62, 64 and 65. Great stuff here, love your work. |
MisterTornado
12.23.12 | 62 is massive. the third track is some of the most bastard shit recorded this year (47 minutes of it ;)). 64 is wild too, the last few minutes are mind blowing. have to be in the mood for 65, a difficult listen (that is, unless you happen to be into sine wave drones in a parking garage) |
