Top Albums Of 1973

I actually thought this year was a little better than it was, guess not.
10 Lynyrd Skynyrd
Pronounced

I rip on Skynyrd a lot, mostly because a lot of their music is complete shit. And there's probably about 3 songs on this one that fit that bill. That said, the influence some of these songs had on me when I was young make this album stick out for me.
9 Don Cherry
Relativity Suite

Another fantastic avant-garde jazz album.
8Tom Waits
Closing Time

Waits' first effort is a collection of bluesy ballads. I'm actually surprised I like this album as much as I do.
7The Modern Jazz Quartet
Blues on Bach

I really like the fusion of classical and jazz, and this delivers.
6 Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon

This is a really good album, despite two songs really not being very good (Money, Us and Them). Other than that, this was the album that defined them as one of rock's predominant acts.
5Genesis
Selling England By the Pound

Genesis is sometimes hit or miss with me, but this one is a definite hit.
4Mahavishnu Orchestra
Birds of Fire

This is my favourite of theirs. Some of the best fusion ever. Billy Cobham rules.
3Black Sabbath
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

If this album had stayed more solid all the way through, it could have been ranked higher. But a few weak tracks towards the end damages its stock.
2 Herbie Hancock
Head Hunters

I think this is generally regarded as his best, and I can see why. This is great, Watermelon Man is ultra groovy.
1Frank Zappa
Over-Nite Sensation

This is one of Zappa's more straight up rock albums, but it's the best of them all. So many great tracks from Camarillo Brillo to Montana. Absolutely fantastic.
