Lollapalooza Day 2: Lollapocalypse

In case you didn't already know, a huge storm blew over Chicago today, rforcing Lolla to evacuate for a couple hours. A few bands had to shorten rtheir sets as a result. Nevertheless, it was still a fun time. Here's who I saw rand what I thought.
1Givers
In Light

The music was quite interesting, with solid doubled percussion, effective layering of guitars/keys, and at least two very capable voices. However, what really stood out about Givers was their energy. The lead vocalist/guitarist jumped around and playfully stuck his tongue out at every opportunity, and the female vocalist/multi- instrumentalist flailed her arms around on the drums like, well, a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tube Man. That energy made them a hell of a lot of fun. Side note: I will never understand why these guys are compared to Vampire Weekend. Performance rating: 4/5
2tUnE-yArDs
w h o k i l l

Although I can't say I absolutely love tUnE-yArDs' music, I have to admit, it's damn creative, and the band performs it all with a LOT of flair and fun. Performance rating: 4/5
3Bloc Party
Silent Alarm

While their newer material (from both Intimacy and their upcoming album) lacked the proper emotional impact of their older work, fortunately, Bloc Party played a lot of their older work, and unlike Metric, they did it justice. "So Here We Are" and "This Modern Love" sounded just as good as they did in 2005. Performance rating: 3.5/5
4Frank Ocean
Channel Orange

I don't follow the hip-hop scene too closely, but I can definitely see why there's so much hype surrounding Frank. His songs are filled with a deep earnestness, and his performance was incredibly heartfelt and powerful. It's clear that he pours everything into his music, and the results are astonishing. Performance rating: 4.5/5
