| New Here. Recs?
I've been browsing Sputnik for a while without an account and I've been looking to get into more rmusic. I have a few bands that I'm really into, but find it hard to get into others. I guess I'm just rlooking for some other bands to be brought to my attention. I can be kind of picky, so I don't rknow how much good will come of this. Anyway, here goes. | 1 | | Silversun Pickups Carnavas
I'll start off with a (hopefully) simple one. I've always liked these guys, I
enjoy the kind of dreamy tone and occasional spazz-outs. | 2 | | Rise Against Siren Song of the Counter Culture
I don't know how many good recs I'll get for this. I can't really get into a lot
of hardcore punk, like Pennywise or Black Flag. I guess Rise Against just
does it in a way that no one else can. Maybe it's Tim's vocals. This,
Revolutions Per Minute, and Sufferer and the Witness are all awesome. | 3 | | Cold War Kids Robbers and Cowards
I'm having trouble finding modern bands that have a style similar to this
album. It has some filler, but I love the style of it and the way Nathan uses
his unique voice. | 4 | | The Fall of Troy Doppelganger
I would LOVE to find more bands that sound like this. This album is
constantly changing from one idea to the next, and every instrument is
super crazy all the time. They're probably the only ones that can do it that
well, so I'm not really getting my hopes up. | 5 | | Thrice The Illusion of Safety
Possibly my favorite album. The songs flow smoothly from one idea to the
next, and the guitar work is absolutely wonderful. | 6 | | Thrice Vheissu
Another great Thrice album. The creativity is off the charts. Songs are varied
and sometimes reach unexpected climaxes. The Earth Will Shake is one of
the best songs I've ever heard. | 7 | | Thrice Beggars
I don't really consider this up to par with the other Thrice albums I listed,
but I like the style that they took with this album, and I'm glad they didn't
continue in the style of the Alchemy Indexes, because most of the songs on
there (Water disc especially) were honestly kind of boring to me. Anyway, I
like this album, and the bluesy style was done well in my opinion. | 8 | | Mother Mother O My Heart
I know there can't be many bands that match the style of Mother Mother,
but I'm laying down the challenge for anyone that wants to try and find
one. If you haven't heard of them, you should probably check them out. | 9 | | System of a Down System of a Down
Another unique band that is probably next to impossible to rec for. Can't
blame me for trying. One of my favorite albums, btw | 10 | | Protest the Hero Scurrilous
I really liked this album from these guys. Rody actually elevated his singing
talents to match the technicality of the rest of the members. Favorite
moment was him shouting "Everyone's naked!" in Sex Tapes. | 11 | | Maps & Atlases Perch Patchwork
This took me a little while to get into. Once I listened a few more times, I
began to see the beauty of all the instruments working together to create
these songs. Haven't listened to any of their EPs before this, which from
what I hear are quite different. | 12 | | Minus the Bear Menos el Oso
Love this band. The keyboards mixed with the guitars are awesome, and
they have some of the most creative riffs and hooks I've heard. | 13 | | The National Alligator
This is a tricky one. I've listened to this album a lot, because from what I
understand, it's considered a masterpiece among many members on the
site. I find it hard to get into, even after listening so many times. Maybe
someone could rec some somewhat similar bands who might not be so hard
to get into? I know that's a little vague, but do what you can. | 14 | | August Burns Red Constellations
This might be tricky too. I'm not into bands like Emmure or The Devil Wears
Prada, but I really like August Burns Red. Maybe it's the same case as Rise
Against, where they just have that special something that no one else in
their genre has. Anyway, try to propose some good metal bands that I
might like. No death metal plz | 15 | | The Gaslight Anthem The 59 Sound
Absolutely love this band. They craft the most perfect songs, and Brian
Fallon will pull your heartstrings. Not much to say other than that, good luck
recommending a better band than this. | |

05.21.12 | Hum good list!
I can definitely recommend The Fall of Troy, listen to the s/t, Doppelganger, Ghosthip EP and the last half of Manipulator. Bands that sound kinda like TFoT include Hot Cross, and maybe Dance Gavin Dance.
About Thrice, listen to all by them. They don't have a single weak release.
9 is a classic, not so much their next albums.
10 is great, I'm starting to see a pattern here, you like fast guitars! I suggest The Dillinger Escape Plan, A Lot Like Birds, Look What I Did and Every Time I Die. | SgtPepper

05.21.12 | I love TFoT. Here's some stuff I think you'd dig based off of that.
Dance Gavin Dance - Happiness (Very fun album. Definitely some catchy noodly guitar parts in there.)
Red Museum - Self Titled (This band sounds very identical to TFoT in every way and you'd really dig them if you dig TFoT)
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command (If you were to ask me, TFoT and AtD-I don't sound all that alike, but AtD-I certainly has that chaos/tempo switch factor going for them that TFoT had on their earlier stuff.)
BATS - Red in Tooth and Claw (It's like a fun TFoT)
Fugazi - 13 Songs (If you dug AtD-I then You'll definitely dig this. Fugazi is an essential band, too, if you ask me)
Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World (Some awesome progressive post-hardcore with screamo influences.)
Joyce Manor - Self Titled (Trust me)
Radiohead - Ok Computer (Trust me [2]) | Pentagon

05.22.12 | To your Rise Against comment, that nobody does similar things, check out:
Ignite - Our Darkest Days
Strike Anywhere - Change is a Sound (Possibly too in your face), Exit English, Dead FM , Iron Front
No Trigger - Canyoneer, Tycoon
Lifetime - Jersey's Best Dancers
Kid Dynamite - S/T and Shorter, Faster, Louder
Paint it Black - Paradise
None More Black - File Under Black
First three recs are pretty similar to Rise Against at least vocally, or musically, the last four are melodic hardcore bands that helped to define the genre and they all share members, Rise Against actually covered a Lifetime song live at one point. So, check them out and enjoy, welcome to Sputnik.

05.22.12 | Do you like lo-fi? How about Flyleaf. | PretentiousListener
05.22.12 | For TFOT definitely check out:
Tera Melos - Patagonian Rats (A lot of the songs on here remind me of the softer, more poppy songs from Manipulator)
Duck Duck Goose - Off Yourself (The closest band I've ever heard to TFOT, only more noisy) | Adabelle
05.22.12 | Lol at some of these recs. For the Fall of Troy, try Damezumari. | SlightlyEpic
05.22.12 | just listen to Fugazi and eat pizza forever |
