Edc Ny: 5-18-2012

So Insomniac Event's famed Electric Daisy Carnival was let loose on New York (Newark) for a carnival themed day of wild ravers. I was impressed by the several carnival rides that they brought with them (zero gravity twirly thing was best, followed closely by a slide) as well as several people manning a filling station that got you hydrated quickly and a 'dj controlled' 4 level pit of fire but was kindof pissed they wouldn't let me get my money and glowsticks and hoody that i had left in the car earlier in the day. Oh well, anyhow, list = acts i saw
1Cosmic Gate
Back 2 The Future

Didn't really dig the chick's voice or the rap that was going on throughout
but they started to work it out by the end
2Madeon
39 Song Pop Mashup

** So, I'm a big fan and once again the youngster didn't disappoint.
Remixes of several daft punk songs, m83's 'midnight city', wolfgang
gartner's 'undertaker', blur's 'song 2' and of course, deadmau5's 'raise your
weapon' were all outmatched by his famed pop culture (live mashup) to
finish things off [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTx3G6h2xyA ]. see
this guy when you have a chance. seriously
3Fedde Le Grand
Output

** Probably the most impressive set of the day (occuring unususally early).
Early remix of Madonna's 'Music' was very well received, and a diverse set
of later songs included the chili peppers' 'by the way' , faithless' 'insomniac'
, coldplay's 'paradise' and gotye's 'somebody that i used to know' . I
almost considered going to pacha after the show and seeing him spin again
but then i realized i can't stand pacha and had just enough energy to drink
a beer if that
4Fatboy Slim
Better Living Through Chemistry

What happened to this guy? His opening of 'Praise You' got me more
psyched than the rest of his set. Occasionally jumping to hits 'the
rockafeller skank' and 'right here, right now' he seemed to have poor taste
in others' music jumping from mediocre dubstep to brainless jumping music
before settling on the very deep refrain 'i'm in new jersey' . most
disappointed i was all day
5 Chriss Vargas
(n/a)

Leaving the main stage to the pacha sponsored stage, I found these
dreary weirdos to be fairly interesting and, while better than fatboy slim,
not quite having enough to keep my attention
6Shy Fx
The Formula

* Probably the best thing happening at this time. 'it's a party it's a party'
reined down on the bass tent and he was mostly working it out.
7Cevin Fisher
Underground 2000

He was cool. I was kinda digging it for a bit.
8Chase and Status
More than Alot

I had heard good things about these d&b guys but it wasn't really working
out for them today. If I had known fatboy slim and chase and status would
be such letdowns, I probably wouldn't have bothered coming at all and
though I'm glad I did, I realized I was spoiled by the likes of Mad Decent
Block Parties and Coachellas.
9Zomboy
Game Time

* While I initially boycotted this act because it wasn't Zomby i still enjoyed
his blend of pulsing bass, agreeable rap and a number of pendulum songs
that sounded as good as when pendulum came on and played them shortly
thereafter
10Armin van Buuren
Mirage

I do like the song 'I'm coming home' and probably some of the other stuff
he was doing, but his unjustified popularity coupled with his ridiculously
inflated ego was too much for me this time. I was there to see Pendulum
at this hour anyhow though so whatever
11Boris Inzhin
Bubble / Cold Blooded

Playing bass bass and more bass. Didn't see much soul in it but the crowd
enjoyed it.
12Pendulum
Immersion

* Not as good as I'd have hoped, but better than most. Only qualm is that
they seemed ready to overstimulate their audience rather than give them
the Pendulum they've enjoyed in the past.
13 ---
---

(band I've seen recently)
14Shpongle
Tales of the Inexpressible

** Put on quite a wild show with visuals, 2 solid openers and a makeshift
environment all their own
15Lotus
Nomad

** 'I didn't know there were that many hippies in New York.' New stuff
doesn't quite hold up but they're so chill it doesn't matter too much.
