Sput Birthday 1

Well I did it. I lasted a year. 54 reviews, 33 lists and 711 ratings, which would be more but I stopped rating everything I listened to a couple of months ago. I haven't made enough friends here to fill out a list so you'll have to put up with a shit ton of electronic music instead.
1Aphex Twin
DrukQs

If memory serves, this was the first proper electronic album that I really kicked back and got into. I'd started to get bored with indie, so it pretty much triggered a binge on every IDM album I could get my hands on.
2Mt Eden
Mt Eden Album

I jumped onto dubstep for a little bit as it really started to gain ground in the public eye. This fella was pretty big on t' youtubes at the time so me and some friends used to chill to it while doing GCSE art.
3Deadmau5
For Lack of a Better Name

I was never really much of a mau5-head, but the guy who originally got me listening to electronic (I used to be one of those "it's not music if it's not made by people" dickheads) was borderline obsessed. Strobe is still awesome though.
4Boards of Canada
Music Has The Right To Children

Not too long ago I ended up in a surprisingly deep discussion with my old English teacher about this album. Seems it's pretty much universally adored.
5Radiohead
Kid A

After living in the same town as them and going to the same schools as them, I think I can finally understand why they ended up making the music they did.
6Foals
Total Life Forever

Same with some of these guys. Happy people do not come from around here.
7Max Richter
The Blue Notebooks

It's fine though, the best music in the world is sad music. Bought this album on vinyl just so I could sit in the dark and be broody as fuck.
8Secede
Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic

It kind of sucks that a lot of people on this site refuse to listen to electronic music, because it really is denying yourself some of the best music ever written for the sake of laziness/ stubbornness. This album still has 6 ratings, despite being a borderline classic.
9Tipper
Surrounded

Likewise. Incredible album: 9 votes. Makes me cry evrytim.
10Bisk
Time

I have a feeling a lot of you guys who enjoy crazy stuff will really dig Bisk. Wouldn't recommend for anyone not used to being mindfucked.
11The Flashbulb
Soundtrack to a Vacant Life

This LP rules. The new one is possibly the most overrated thing on this site. 3.8 average yet no one can be bothered to review it? Yeh... i'm not buying those 4.5's.
12Aglaia
Three Organic Experiences

Actually let's jump back to unknown classics (contradictions!). This is one of the best pure ambient albums I've ever heard.
13Rokkurro
Í Annan Heim

This isn't exactly a classic. But it's still an outstanding example of icelandic post-rock goodness.
14A Winged Victory for the Sullen
A Winged Victory for the Sullen

Actually fuck this list for a bit I'm going to come back and finish it later. Just had the urge to go have a sesh listening to this.
15Bersarin Quartett
II

Back. This on FLAC = *drool*. Was emailing this guy the other day, too. He's pretty damn cool.
16Mr. Scruff
Keep It Unreal

Spandex Man is my jam 4 lyf.
17Massive Attack
Heligoland

Is it wrong that I don't think Mezzanine is the best thing ever made ever? I think this album's a lot better than people give it credit for.
18 Robag Wruhme
Wuzzlebud "KK"

This album just gets better every time I listen to it. His most recent one, Thora Vukk, is also excellent.
19Fredrik
Flora

Sweet yet dark folk/electronic from Sveeeden. They dropped an EP this year with a remix by Eluvium on it but I never got round to getting my hands on it.
20Grum
Heartbeats

So. fucking. happy. eugh.
21The Future Sound of London
Dead Cities

I kind of wish I was born about 15 years earlier, that way I would have been around in the 90's and as far as I'm concerned the 90's were the absolute tits in terms of music and, well, a lot of other things.
22Squarepusher
Feed Me Weird Things

So many fucking classics from the 90's. Although working backwards through Squarepusher's discography was pretty fun.
23Autechre
EP7

Their best release. End of discussion.
24Beefcake
Drei

While we're on the topic of 90's stuff. This little LP from 2001 is full to the brim with 90's style electronic. It's also a masterpiece so if you're not one of the 17 you've rated it go have a listen.
25Amon Tobin
ISAM

When I first reviewed this, I didn't really have the knowledge to really sell it. I might go back and review it again, but until then: jesus christ it's beautiful.
26Natural Snow Buildings
The Dance of the Moon and the Sun

Another one I might re-review, but this time it's just because I want to talk about the most perfect piece of music ever created.
27I Monster
NeveroddoreveN

Now I just included this because it's bat-shit insane and you should go listen.
28Pepe Deluxe
Queen of the Wave

This too.
29Daedelus
Denies the Day's Demise

Also this, though Daedelus is a more kind of violent lunatic. Still lovable though: he has crazy hair and his soundcloud page is very active. He pumps stuff out left right and centre.
30 DJ Food
The Search Ending

Take the above craziness and mix in trip-hop and the fact that this was released this year so go listen.
31Prefuse 73
One Word Extinguisher

Still some mad trip-hop stuff but it's just a tad more chilled out.
32Flying Lotus
L.A. EP 3 X 3

I was going to be seeing this guy
33James Blake
James Blake

and this guy
34Oneohtrix Point Never
Replica

and this guy
35Orbital
In Sides

and these guys along with Squarepusher, Snoop Dog, Clark + a shit ton more this summer, but no one will go with me. Sad times.
36Richard Skelton
Landings

But for now I will sit here and listen to a load of ambient and feel sorry for myself because instead I might end up seeing David Guetta at Creamfields so I'll probably end up killing myself.
37Anenon
Inner Hue

My 3rd favourite ambient release of this year.
38The Post Riot Era
Schism

2nd favourite.
39Listening Mirror
Resting in Aspic

1st favourite.
40Desolate
Celestial Light Beings

Albums like this are also really good, but I have a very hard time bringing myself to call this ambient.
41Stars of the Lid
The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid

These guys are definitely ambient though.
42The Dead Texan
The Dead Texan

2nd favourite Stars of the Lid side project after a Winged Victory for the Sullen. Nice and bite sized too; give it to your kids.
43 Eluvium
When I live in the Garden by the Sea

Proof that I will love any album with a Tom Hanks sample in it.
44Solar Fields
Leaving Home

Very, very tasty space-like ambient.
45Anoice
The Black Rain

It's not particular ambitious but it's just super-duper nice ambient/ post- rock stuff. The kind of thing that everyone likes but no one obsessively likes. Well worth a look though.
46Mono / World's End Girlfriend
Palmless Prayer / Mass Murder Refrain

Unlike this, which you're not allowed to dislike otherwise I will judge you silently.
47World's End Girlfriend
Starry Starry Night

Also did you guys catch this? It has some very nice moments.
48Ed Harrison
Neotokyo

Only 9 votes... dayum. It has an average of 4.6 so far if that makes any more of you interested in hearing one of the most exhilarating and interesting soundtracks of all time... ALL TIME!
49Hermitude
HyperParadise

No, seriously, go get #48. This as well, but #48 is more important.
50Holy Other
With U

"Touch" is one of my war songs, along with "All The Wine" by The National and "In McDonalds" by Burial. Gets me in the moooooood.
51Burial
Street Halo

Who said Burial?
52Klatu
Mutual

Or
53Phaeleh
Fallen Light

Things
54Swarms
I Gave You Everything

That
55Submerse
Mecha

Were
56Mount Kimbe
Maybes

Similar-ish? Yeh maybe Mount Kimbe's a little far.
57Long Arm
The Branches

The genre I was told this fell into was Jazz-hop. That's a stupid sounding genre, but it kind of fits. This LP is smooth as fuck from head to toe, and also pretty damn groovy.
58 Void Pedal
Void Pedal EP

As is this. Currently sitting on 1 vote (mine) and it's brilliant. A quick google will prove that it's free as well, so what's stopping you? Oh, and Rishi is the sexiest track ever made.
59edIT
Crying Over Pros For No Reason

This album is also pretty sexy. Shame he had to go on to be mediocre.
60Nicolas Jaar
Space Is Only Noise

Revisiting this album, it seems to have gotten better. Odd.
61Goldie
Timeless

The funny thing about listening to this is that after years spent seeing Goldie on the tv doing documentaries and assorted random shit, I really did not expect him to have made some of the most awesome DnB I've ever heard. Well, you know what they say: never judge a musician by the number of his gold fillings.
62Murcof
Remembranza

And now for something classy as balls.
63Arvo Part
Tabula Rasa

And then even more classy.
64Kettel
Whisper Me Wishes

And now something not quite as classy but my rating for it is looking very lonely at the minute.
65u-ziq
Tango N' Vectif

Where the "u" is meant to be the greek letter mu so it spells out "music". Very clever.
66Venetian Snares
Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett

Now this would be classy if not for the several dozen drummers having an epileptic fit in a drum room behind all the lovely instruments.
67Autistic Daughters
Uneasy Flowers

Not electronic, but experimental-as-fuck-folk. I love it.
68William Basinski
The Disintegration Loops III

Now is this electronic? Either way it's unintentionally the most depressing piece of anything in forever; ever.
69Ben Frost
Music For Sad Children

Because this isn't that sad. Still very good though.
70Fo//ic/e
Nidificating

This is more intentionally sad. Kinda weird and fucking disturbing as well. Lonely vote on this one too.
71Piano Magic
Disaffected

Ah man, I totally forgot about these guys. If I remember correctly, one of their tracks is just a bloke talking about how he's going to kill himself.... AWESOME.
72Red Light Company
Fine Fascination

Another interlude of non-electronic stuff. Happy-indie people should check this out.
73Steve Aoki
Wonderland

My girlfriend makes me listen to this because, quote: "I need to be eased back in to real music for people who know what sunlight is"
74Omar S
Just Ask the Lonely

Then I go listen to this.
75Robert Rich
Somnium

and then this. That'll show her.
76Dntel
Life Is Full of Possibilities

Returning to this list for the second time (just went out for some film screening shit before hanging round the park), I think I may have overstretched myself with trying to do this with no structure at all. Oh well...
77Gui Boratto
III

Oh there's this. This is good.
78Lapalux
When You're Gone

This has kind of grown on me to be honest. Gone and Moments are both absolutely incredible: if only they could fill a whole LP with tracks like that and they'd be set.
79Wisp
NRTHNDR

Pretty damn awesome IDM stuff that's well worth a looksy.
80The Tumbled Sea
Songs By The Tumbled Sea

Another one of those "I want to sit in a dark room and be gloomy as fuck" records. That website that shows rain pouring onto a window was pretty much made for this...
81Stendeck
Scintilla

Quite playful IDMish things.
82Soundtrack
Portal 2: Songs To Test By

This soundtrack is the tiiiitts. Exile Vilify (by The National) isn't on it though, which sucks.
83Ratatat
Classics

"I know it's electronic, but it's actually kind of good" - some random German bloke recommending me this album.
84Madness
One Step Beyond

Not electronic (you should know this!). Grew up with my dad listening to either this, Queen or Eric Clapton.
85Magic Man
Real Life Color

Indie-Electonic/ Blogwave
86Paco Sala
Ro-Me-Ro

Never did get round to reviewing this. Ambient, but in the style of...
87Tim Hecker
Harmony in Ultraviolet

... which is a very, very good album.
88Son Lux
At War With Walls and Mazes

Pretty sure I found this from a friend who found it from Skins. The UK version not the shitty US spin off... also not from season 3 onwards cos it got crap very quickly.
89AFX
Chosen Lords

Listen to all the EPs in this series. I'm serious; some of his best stuff EVAR is in these eps.
90The Avalanches
Since I Left You

With some of the best music videos of all time.
91Wendy Carlos
A Clockwork Orange

Soundtracks are tasty.
92Clint Mansell, Kronos Quartet & Mogwai
The Fountain OST

Includes one of the best pieces ever; ever.
93Gustav Holst
The Planets Suite, for orchestra, Op. 32

First came into contact with this while it was blasted out to me in a field in Somerset. Long story. Anyway, Jupiter made me cry for realz. So motherfucking perfect.
94Noisia
Split The Atom

From serenity to getting your face blown off be noise... ee-ah.
95cssc
The Lonely Robot

I'm not sure if it's possible to have a cuter name for an album.
96m83
Saturdays=Youth

I'm deeply infatuated with Morgan Kibby.
97The Romanovs
...and the Moon was Hungry...

No I'm serious, I am. Mostly because this album is just jaw-droppingly mad and incredible at the same time. She manages to be sexy when singing about eating someone - it's confusing.
98Saltillo
Monocyte

Just been listening to this guy's new EP. It's more of a spin off of this LP, really - but welcome nonetheless.
99 Schiller
Leben

Dowwnnntteeeeemmmmppppoooooooooo.
100Queen
Greatest Hits One

I just want to share with you the fact that I've finally learnt all the words and all the notes to Bohemian Rhapsody so I can mouth jam to it at will. It's not relevant to the list at all.
