Formed in 2001 after the demise of the Post Hardcore whirlwind At The Drive-In by ex-members Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals) and
OmarRodriguez-Lopez (guitar), who then recruited Juan Alderete on bass, Ikey Owens on keyboard, and Jon Theodore on drums, as well as
JeremyWard, who contributed sound effects. Whilst other ex-members of At The Drive-In continued on the path of the former band with punk/Emo
group Sparta, The Mars Volta expanded their sonic pallette, often venturing into extended free jazz and psychedelic jamming throughout their songs.
Unfortunately as of now they have disbanded. :(
