TOUCH may have possibly been the first progressive rock band. That is a heavy title to claim, but the circumstances seem to support the argument. Some may say that they must have been influenced by the early British prog bands, but this does not seem to be the case for one important reason: they were formed in the mid 60s and released their album in early 1968. i.e their music and ideas predates King Crimson's ''In the Court of the Crimson King'' the so-called 'first' progressive rock album.

Lead by the former garage pop/rocker Don Gallucci, (inventor of the timeless Louie Louie keyboard riff in 1963 when 15) the band recorded their eponymous self-titled album in 1968. TOUCH's music received praise from well known rock artists including Jimmy Hendrix, Mick Jagger and has been a major influence and inspiration for bands like YES and Kansas. « hide
