Symphony X was founded in New Jersey in 1994 after Michael Romeo, the guitarist, had garnered some

The first album was praised by progressive metal fans everywhere and received rave reviews in Japan.
Only eight months after the release of the first album the band released their second entitled "The
Damnation Game." The Damnation Game was well received in prog metal circles for its unique blend of
power, progressive, and neoclassical metal stylings. The intense guitar work of Michael Romeo coupled
with the power of vocalist Russell Allen, the album broke them out of the unknown. However, they would
follow it up with what many consider to be their crowning achievement, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy.
Featuring, among other things, a 20 minute title track
complete with choir, the album would withstand the test of time as a terrific album. Other albums the
band has released include Twilight In Olympus, (which many find a step down from the band), V: The
New Mythology Suite (arguments occur almost daily whether this album is better than Divine Wings or
not), and The Odyssey, which was the band's most successful album to date, truly
breaking them out of the relatively unknown and earning them a spot on Gigantour. « hide |
