Sweet Smoke was a short-lived Progressive rock band who also incorporated prominent Jazz Fusion and Psychedelic
influences into their music. Their sound also drew inspiration from other genres as well, most notably Funk and Latin music.
They were originally formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1967, although the band moved to live as a commune in Germany
before the decade was out. Their albums, particularly their 1970 effort, Just A Poke, turned them into a sort of cult icon
among the underground scene which was beginning to emerge in Europe as a response to the American hippie culture. Today
the band enjoys a quiet, but nonetheless esteemed, reputation as a well respected group in both Progressive rock and Jazz
Fusion.
