Oasis released their debut album, "Definitely Maybe" in 1994, and quickly came to summarise the Britpop movement, becoming arch rivals with Damon Albar's band, Blur. Oasis released their debut album, "Definitely Maybe" in 1994, and quickly came to summarise the Britpop movement, becoming arch rivals with Damon Albar's band, Blur. Thanks to the arrogance of frontman Liam Gallagher who would become a legend of the British tabloid press, they have rarely been off the front pages for long, but it's worth remembering that their first 2 albums were true classics of the genre, with era. defining songs such as "Wonderwall", "Live Forever" "Champagne Supernova" and "Don't Look Back In Anger". Put simply, if you're British and of a certain age, these guys probably provided a major part of the soundtrack to your chilhood. Sadly though they released 3 albums, starting with "Be Here Now" which threatened to destroy the band's legacy due to massive musical flaws, which made one query whether the old Oasis were ever capable of relasing another album. The band's low point was reached with 2002's "Heathen Chemistry", but their album of earlier this year, "Don't Believe The Truth", marks something of a return to form, although it still lags behind their classic work. Oasis remain a formidable live act and one of Britain's biggest bands. « hide
