Moonpools and Caterpillars was a Filipino indie pop band that first formed in 1987. In 1989, the group relocated to Glendale, California, where they slowly developed a small, yet loyal, cult following. In 1993, Moonpools and Caterpillars independently released their first album, which was self-titled, and later became a major band when they signed to EastWest in 1994, making the group one of the very first Filipino bands to sign to a major American label.Moonpools and Caterpillars then had a mildly successful hit in 1995 with their single “Hear”, which was featured in the cult 1996 Disney TV film Wish Upon a Star, and another song of theirs, “Summertime”, was featured in the 1995 film Baby-Sitters Club. Despite their popularity on the rise, Moonpools and Caterpillars ended up going silent for much of 1997 and 1998, before independently releasing their last album in late 1998, “12 Songs”, before disbanding in 1999.
