Mogwai decided that vocalists are a thing of the past.

First thing to know about Mogwai is that they take the tried and tested "quiet loud quiet" formula, and make it look like theyoriginated it. It wouldseem that the sudden turning on of distortion, or the heavier drums are just a cheap way to improve asong, but with Mogwai, you almost want to takethe song there yourself. Everything about them is based on their ability to buildup a song from nothing but 2 or 3 notes, and by the end, make it feellike an orchestra and their families had joined in. Eachsong sets a story for the listener to piece together from what images the flowing riffs and beatsconjure up. They don't spoil itwith a vocalist portraying their own ideas over the top, and that's what gives them the edge. « hide
