Their first LP, "I am the Fun Blame Monster", released by the band themselves on May 20, 2003,
was sent to Pitchfork Media for review. Simply put, they loved it. It received an 8.7/10 and was
featured on the best new music section, which put them on the musical map. This in turn led to a
label offer by FILMguerro.
The second LP titled "Under An Hour" was and is fairly unknown to most. It is an instrumental
album consisting of three songs that were used as the soundtrack for an experimental dance
company called Monster Squad. The album got mixed reviews but served as a glimpse into the
creative potential of the band (the three tracks are all over 17 minutes and incorporate every
instrument imaginable..
The latest addition to the Menomena discography started 2007 with a blast. "Friend and Foe" is an
extremely lush album. Period. The band, in this album, experiments with off-beats, tempo switches,
and creative melody structures extensively. While being received well for the most part by critics,
some claim all of the oddness is a little overwhelming and over-the-top at times. The artowrk for
the album, done by Craig Thompson, was nominted for a Grammy Award for "Best Recording
Package" in December 2006.
