High voltage heroes of contemporary Irish music, Kíla formed in Dublin in 1987, originally comprised of vocalist/bodhrán player Rónán Ó Snodaigh, hismulti-instrumentalist brother Rossa, and uileann piper Eoin Dillon. The schoolmates soon welcomed another Ó Snodaigh sibling, flautist Colm, andbegan busking throughout the Dublin area; a series of other members passed through Kíla's ranks before the lineup finally solidified with the additionsof fiddler Dee Armstrong, guitarist Lance Hogan, and his bassist brother, Brian. Debuting Handel's Fantasy 1993 followed by Mind the Gap 1995, thegroup returned in 1997 with Tóg é Go Bog é. Lemonade & Buns followed two years later. In 2001, the group released Monkey!, a collection of songscomposed for a musical stage production based on a 16th century Chinese folk tale. It was followed by Luna Park (2003), Live in Dublin (2004), andthe EP Tiománaí in 2005. Kíla have also colaborated with the Ainu composer Oki in 2006, releasing the "Kíla & Oki" album followed by "Gamblers'Ballet" in 2007.2008 saw the release in Ireland of their Concert Film Kíla 'Once Upon A Time' which has received some top accolades by some heavy hitters and isavailable on DVD from their website. « hide |
