Formed by guitarist/singer Dave Brock, guitarist Mick Slattery and saxophonist Nik Turner in the later 1960's,Hawkwindwereprobably themost famous
underground rock band in the world. Their history, which spans over three decades, hasbeenmarkedby a series of different line-ups (through around
forty changes in members), which of course produced ametamorphiceffect onthe band's sound, which continually evolved, beginning with a almost
jazzy feel in their earliest release("Hawkwind"),progressingto a more experimental and accoustic sound in other earlyreleases and a more "metal"
sound in theseventies, withsome of theirmore recent albums reminiscent of a more electronic feel. At least 100Hawkwind albums exist, including
studioreleases, bootlegsof live performances, compilations, and EP's.
