Going Steady were a punk band from Japan that formed in 1996, consisting of Mineta Kazunobu (vocals/guitar), Abiko Shinya (bass), Murai Mamoru (drums), and Asai Takeo (guitar). They were known for their frantic, playful style of punk that retained the aggressive traditions of the genre while also emphasizing pop elements. Going Steady broke up in 2003 on the eve of a national tour, having released two albums, a split EP and six singles. They are regarded as one of the most influential and memorable Japanese punk bands of the 2000s. Three of the four members of the band--Mineta, Abiko, and Murai--went on the form the Ging Nang Boyz, while Asai formed NIA.
