Ashbird

Following the July release of their first single 'Out of Mind', Ashbird release their debut album – 'The Edge of Reality'. As well as the aforementioned single, the album contains a further eight tracks and is a full length album, producing 55 minutes of top quality rock music; rather than a 3 or 4 track EP, which is a departure from the first step bands usually take in getting their music published. The band have already featured on internet radio station Riviera FM and BBC Radio Devon talking about the single and the new album, which is out now on iTunes, Amazon and physical CD’s. The single is regularly requested by listeners and has received a very positive response when the band play it at their many gigs. As well as bringing together the bands musical talents, 'The Edge of Reality' displays their song writing and arrangement skills, showing a variety of styles and influences but still sounding unmistakeably unique. The album starts with the pensive tension of prelude 'Scratch The Surface' which kicks into the rocker 'Damnation'. The radio friendly but no less powerful ' Out of Mind' follows and shows how good the band are at writing tracks which absorb the listener. The guitar instrumental 'Face The Light' and hard edged ballad 'Duality' shows the band in a slightly more reflective mood. Then comes the impressive title track and the awesome Theremin infused 'Battle Cry'. A couple of progressive metal epics, with the latter running in at nearly ten minutes long. 'Across Divides', provides a change of theme with a strong fusion of rock and reggae genres. The final track 'Hypnotize' rocks the album to a close and leaves the listener wanting more. The album was produced at the home studio of guitarist Matt Chalk and mastered at Stardelta Mastering. Commenting on the album the band said: ' We're very excited about this; we've worked very hard on the songs, which we started writing almost as soon as the band formed earlier this year. Each member of the band shares a love of rock in all its forms, we listen to lots of diverse bands such as; Rush, Led Zeppelin, Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Alter Bridge and Porcupine Tree, to name but a few. We are a hard rock/progressive metal band but we don't want to restrict ourselves to a formula sound, we want to be able to mix it up a bit! I hope the album shows us to be a band that can do more than churn out 3 minute copy and paste type songs, and really absorb people into our music” Following the iTunes release the band launched the album at a special gig on Friday, 30 December at the Apple & Parrot in Torquay; where they played the entire album from start to finish. The album is available in CD format at gigs and via the bands website www.ashbird.co.uk. After a successful release show the band follow the album release with a full slate of gigs and festival appearances throughout 2012. « hide
