Outkast got signed to Laface in 1992, originally starting out as being on a Remix of a TLC song. Eventually they released Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik which was well adored among Rap fans, but barely noticed by the mainstream audience. Eventually they released Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik which was well adored among Rap fans, but barely noticed by the mainstream audience. But over time, as outkast reached a mainstream audience, the album would eventually go Platinum.
In 1996, Outkast released ATLiens, which was a gigantic departure from their style on Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik , it was much more Electronic and Afrocentric, and really showed a quick maturing in Outkast's career. "Elevators" reached the top 20 (The first Outkast song that got such noteriety) and ATLiens peaked at #2 on the US Album charts, And has gone Double Platinum.
In 1998, Outkast released what Is widely regarded as their best effort: "Aquemini" (The title comes from the 2 members Zodiac Signs) Which Recieved 5 Mics which was at the time, the greatest honor for a Hip-Hop album. Once again, Outkast grew up and matured from their previous effort, Aquemini had Rock, Blues, and Jazz influences which helped reached a very wide audience and would help the album go Double Platinum.
Though Outkast were adored By Rap fans and Casual Listeners alike, their big break would come in 2000, with the release of "Stankonia". Which comtained smash hits like "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)", "Ms. Jackson", and "So Fresh, So Clean". The album won 2 Grammys and went 4X Platinum, and was on Top 10 of 2000 Lists everywhere.
Just when Outkast thought they had reached their Zenith, they released the long anticipated and long Delayed Double Solo Album Speakerboxx(Big Boi)/ The Love Below (Andre 3000) which was mached by few albums in popularity, It sold well over 5,000,000 Copies (But since it was a double album, it went Diamond)
Outkast have once again made people anticipate their new (and once again, often pushed back) Idlewild, which is said to be released in the Summer of '06 « hide |
