Iron Maiden
Metal

One of the greatest and most popular heavy metal bands to ever take the stage, Iron Maiden was formed in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris. After several lineup changes in the early 80s, a more or less stable line-up emerged. This classic line-up includes vocalist Bruce "Air Raid Siren" Dickinson, as well as twin lead guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith, and Nicko McBrain on drums. Maiden pioneered the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement of the early 80s, distinguishing themselves from their peers with literary subject matter and considerable musical talent.

In 1989, Adrian Smith lost interest in playing and left the band, being replaced by Janick Gers from Dickinson's solo project. The next two Maiden albums received much poorer reviews than their previous material, and eventually Bruce himself jumped ship, replaced by Blaze Bayley of Wolfsbane. Because Blaze's voice is much different, many fans did not receive this change very well. Eventually, after another two studio albums, Bruce returned back, bringing Adrian Smith back with him - and though Blaze would leave, Gers would not! Now a sextet, Iron Maiden was able to take a distinctly progressive-influenced slant, which grew and evolved over the course of the next three albums.

Their fourteenth studio album, "A Matter of Life and Death", continues the legacy of Iron Maiden three decades later, all without the benefit of radio airplay or media saturation. Only a very special band could manage this feat.
