New edgy punk straight out of Barry, South Wales. The group’s members met in Barry, the not very rock ‘n’ roll South Wales town where they went to the local comprehensive. Tiring of the various dubious thrills of Barry Island Pleasure Park, the four of them set about forming a band. They initially performed as punkish also-rans Babylose, before realising they were a bit rubbish. So, retitled and reinvigoured, they returned as My Red Cell. After a couple of years in the indie wilderness, they were picked up by the industry. With a healthy dose of spit and spite, and a name change said to reflect “the room each of us creates to live within, stacking our experiences brick by brick”, My Red Cell were open for business. Their self-titled debut EP, released in November 2003, was recorded in Toerag, the lo-fi London studio famed as the birthing place of The White Stripes’ Elephant. It was followed by the Knock Me Down EP in March 2004, and the debut My Red Cell album 13 In My 31 in June 2004. « hide
