Menomena
Indie

Funkadelic indie rockers consisting of Brent Knopf, Justin Harris, and Danny Seim. After graduating

from college in late 2000, Knopf decided to collaborate with Harris and Seim. Together they

distributed their home-made CDR's with self done artwork; like true indie rockers. Through these

efforts and Portland's love of their quirkiness, they began to bloom.

Their first LP, "I am the Fun Blame Monster", released by the band themselves on May 20, 2003,

was sent to Pitchfork Media for review. Simply put, they loved it. It received an 8.7/10 and was

featured on the best new music section, which put them on the musical map. This in turn led to a

label offer by FILMguerro.

The second LP titled "Under An Hour" was and is fairly unknown to most. It is an instrumental

album consisting of three songs that were used as the soundtrack for an experimental dance

company called Monster Squad. The album got mixed reviews but served as a glimpse into the

creative potential of the band (the three tracks are all over 17 minutes and incorporate every

instrument imaginable.)

The latest addition to the Menomena discography started 2007 with a blast. "Friend and Foe" is an

extremely lush album. Period. The band, in this album, experiments with off-beats, tempo switches,

and creative melody structures extensively. While being received well for the most part by critics,

some claim all of the oddness is a little overwhelming and over-the-top at times. The artowrk for

the album, done by Craig Thompson, was nominted for a Grammy Award for "Best Recording

Package" in December 2006.
