A seminal 80s British indie band, The Smiths were centered around the intensely creative songwriting duo Morrissey (vocals, lyrics) and Johnny Marr (guitar, piano, music). Commonly associated with depressed, student-types, the Smiths are not timeless but are instead rather representative of life in the Thatcherian England of the 80s.
