One of the biggest names in indie music today, Modest Mouse's success has been built on the back of releasing remarkably consistent albums in recent years. Their breakthrough can be traced back to the release of 1997's The Lonesome Crowded West, after which the band were picked up by Epic Records, with whom they released The Moon And Antarctica, which took them to a new level of popularity, thanks in part to the licensing of one song from it for commercial use by Nissan. In spite of drummer Jeremiah Green quitting before the recording of Good News For People Who Love Bad News , this saw them hit a whole new demographic, thanks in part to the success of single Float On, and appearances on shows such as The O.C. The band also have the dubious achievement of having been mentioned by name in a United States Supreme Court ruling, with Justice David Souter mentioning them in the case of MGM vs. Grokster, perhaps removing any remaining indie credibility that they may have had left. In 2006, frontman Isaac Brock began working with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr on some tracks for their new album. They ended up liking each other and Marr agreed to tour with the band supporting their new album. The album's title is We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, and it will be released on December 19th, 2006. « hide |
