Oceansize exist for devotees of minimalism, maximalism, the uncompromising and the intriguingly
unique. They were conceived quietly in the minds of five young men strategically placed around the
UK and are currently based in Manchester.
Although unwilling to disclose their influences, Oceansize have a deep respect for the following:
Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Can, Cardiacs, Jane's Addiction, (early) Verve, Swervedriver, The Beach
Boys and Tortoise. But the only way to really appreciate the Oceansize sound is to see their
incendiary live show. Check out the news and live pages for dates.
2002 was the year that things really started to happen for Oceansize with the band supporting The
Cooper Temple Clause TWICE on their UK tours and opening the BPI stage at the SXSW Music
Festival in Austin, Texas to an incredibly enthusiastic audience of both fans and industry. But the
biggest achievement of 2002 was signing a recording contract with Beggars Banquet Records.
Oceansizes first Beggars Banquet release, the Relapse EP, came out last October (21/10) to a
warm reception, especially from the likes of Xfm where Oceansize received regular play from John
Kennedy and also recorded an exclusive live session for the Xposure Show, The Fly where they were
named One to Watch, NME who described the band as ..cataclysmic. and Kerrang! Who featured the
band as a Rising Band and said in a live review Oceansize emerge victorious KKKK!
2003 sees their next EP release One Day All This Could Be Yours scheduled for release on 5th
May. Recorded with the brilliant Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters & Feeder), this release will hopefully
see the band build on their current profile and claim more positive airplay and press coverage.
One Day.. is an insight into Oceansizes developing sound, using samplers and keyboards to create
an incessant, hypnotising bass rumble that synchs easily with their devastating 3 guitar attack and
groove. Backed with new track Breed Siamese and live afvourite Massive Bereavement recorded live
on New Years Eve 2002 at The Witchwood, Ashton-u-Lyne.
Oceansize recently finished mixing tracks for their 3rd EP and their debut album. Recorded again
with Chris Sheldon expect to see a 3rd EP sometime in late July and the debut album in late
August/September.
