Cream

Formed in 1966, Cream took psychedelic music to a level never heard before, keeping the trippy appeal of The Beatles and combining it with virtuoso playing by all the group's members. Considered the first power trio, Cream boasted three of the finest players of the time with Eric Clapton (guitar & vocals), Jack Bruce (bass & vocals) and Ginger Baker (drums & vocals). The pressure of touring eventually took its toll on all three members, and Jack and Ginger were constantly at each others' throats. Cream split in 1969 after releasing four albums and reunited very recently for a series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. Their legacy, however, remains untouched, along with The Beatles and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream were one of the most important and innovative bands of the 60's, significantly shaping the face of rock music. With their technically accomplished, heavy and still widely appealing sound, they laid the groundwork for famous names in the next decade, ranging from hard rockers Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple to heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath, and even progressive acts such as Rush. « hide
